They should keep you guys happy with decent loaners like 550s, x5 5.0, x6 5.0, m3 etc
Good luck to all of you, I feel really bad you guys need to go through this. |

With all of the early quality issues on this launch I'm ready to pack it in and sell the beast because I'm sure any BMWNA compensation will be incremental at best. It's a shame because I was really looking forward to driving this car for many years. But all I read about anymore is suspension clunks, missing seat bolsters and now an engine recall. are there any lawyers out there who can advise of our rights to refuse re-dleivery of the car post-ED and move on? Looking for a put option...

I have just under 1000 miles on my new M5 , on the list and waited 5 months for this car. When I think of the ton of money BMW M divison spent hyping this car as opposed to an effective Q/C program I could strangle somebody. Now BMW M Division circles the wagons , and prepares their talking points and scripts for the automotive press and last but not least customers. And believe me those talking points will be carefully crafted and they will have gone through numerous revisions and reviews. The automotive press for their part will want no part of reporting this for fear of lost advertising revenue . But just think of how they are going to look when their mags come out next month covering the M5 intro into the U.S. from the vantage point of Laguna Seca . They are probadly scrambling . This has been one screwed up launch, not to mention the seats that were advertised for months as 20 way that turned to be 18 way. Sorry for my rant but I am getting madder by the hour.

I called my CA right after I got the call from BMW NA. They are driving a loaner car out to my house tomorrow which is a round trip of almost 70 miles. At least my dealer is doing what he can.

I'm on the list. I blame BarryB. Is his car is delivered before my car is fixed, I think he should loan me his car and take my 2006 Civic Hybrid as a loaner.
In all seriousness, those with cars en route post ED might get lucky and have the fix applied while dealer does pre-delivery prep. Best case, cars still get released to us on same schedule. |

Mine is not on the list and I can't believe it. There were two M5s delivered to my dealer on the same day and one is on the list but mine is not. Why would that occur? Mine completed production sometime late July. I am happy for the news but skeptical that i have escaped the problem.

You're lucky that you did not get the presumably defective oil pump. Any car production system will have individual inventory of each oil pump that went into each car so they can tell which car will have that representative oil pump. It would be much more dificult to test each oil pump whether or not it is defective than to just replace oil pumps of those cars that were from the same batch (or source). Your car's oil pump may not have been from the batch deemed defective.

Wow, this is disappointing news but I can't say I'm surprised.
I had an E46 M3 that went through two separate recalls for an engine bearing issue. Then a year after the warranty expired, the head gasket went. That was a $6000 repair, luckily paid for by my extended warranty. When it came time to sell the car, I didn't seriously consider the next gen M3 or the M5 and went to a 997 Turbo which has been rock solid. I had actually just started to look for a replacement for my wife's car and really liked the F10 M5 but thinking back to my M3's problems (and today's news) gives me pause. BMW's main focus these days seem to be on churning out cheaper models like the 1 & 3 series and slapping M's on 1 series, X5s & X6s. |

Jeez, that lease residual is looking better and better by the minute. I feel bad for you guys that actually paid cash or financed this auto, you are going to take a HUGE beating in the ass when you try to sell this car in the future or trade it in. Most buyers of these units are informed and they will know about this issues. I sure wouldn't want to own this car out of warranty.

Exactly. BMW is trying to corner the entry level segment and attract new costumers. In doing this, they are shitting on their most loyal (and wealthiest) consumers. Not good business imo.

I have an October build, almost positive it will be delayed and I will be in a jam to figure out what to do without a car as my current lease ends 2nd week of Dec. Bah!! This is a disaster for ///M - the effort needed to resolve this is massive!! We are talking flagship models here; thinking of delaying to 2014 - will grab something off lease busters??

I plan to refuse delivery of my ED M5 that is currently on the boat on the way over here. I'm not willing to put up with even the possibility that my engine may have already been damaged in the 600 miles I put on it in Europe. Anyone else feeling the same way?

The issue involves the engine oil pump. The pump driveshaft can separate from the pump rotor. If this were to occur, the engine could experience a sudden loss of oil pressure which could cause severe engine damage. I'm not worried about any damage unless the "Low Oil Pressure" warning comes on. My interpretation of that is either the pump driveshaft is properly connected to the rotor and normal oil pressures are maintained or it separates and loses all oil pressure immediately (catastrophic failure of the pump) - there's no "in between" where you have "low" oil pressure.
