Two (2) 1200 mile break in services?
Are there now two 1200 mile break in services? I just took mine in for the initial 1200 mile service and the advisor stated the BMW computer reset it for another 1200 mile service... Anyone else? I'm thinking this is not the case.... My car is not affected from the recall (for now!)

My car is now "unlocked" and the Launch Control is amazing. The car seems to have the very same power before and after.....which is a lot. |

What did your service dept have to do to get rid of the 2nd 1200 mile service indicator issue? I had my 1200 mile service last week and like your car, it keeps saying that I now have 1200 miles until I need service again. I took the car back in today to have them reset the indicator but they weren't able to do so; I was told they will have to do a complete software download to fix this issue. Hence the car has to go back again for many hours. Just wanting to know if this is your experience.

The problem is that the tech tried to reset the 1200 mileage through the car's instrument cluster -- when he should have hooked it up to the computer to unlock the break in period. They need to hook up the car to the computer and it takes around 30 minutes since the computer has to check each system before it can unlock. There is no new software download.

According to the manual there are two break in periods, actually 3.
0-300 miles , very very light on the car to allow breaks and tires to wear in properly 300-1200 for initial break in, 105 mph and 5500 rpms should not be surpassed 1200-3000 after break in service done, limited to 135mph and passing only at 155mph in short bursts which probably means do not read line or abuse Seems logical |

I did like the bit that stated you can go briefly to the vehicles maximum of 155mph for example when overtaking! Lol Mine is having its 1200 break in service today and I spoke directly with the tech to get the run down on what they do. He confirmed the usual engine oil/filter/ diff oil/ visual inspection underneath etc and reprogramming of the DME to unleash a bit more power/action! :-) |
