Deep Sea Blue Color on M5 F10 !!
Good day, I might need some thoughts as I am going through the next level of confusion... I am planning to order M5 F10. Because I love the dual personality of this car (as a full size luxury car that a small family can enjoy, yet is very sporty and aggressive as well when required), I am planning to have a classy interior color from the inside... something like Champagne Beige with wooden trims... When it comes to the exterior color I am a bit confused; although I am so much in love with MCB, I sometimes think of ordering it as Deep Sea Blue !! Advantages: 1. It would be very unique. 2. It has a good balance between the shining MCB and the Imperial Blue. Disadvantages: 1. In the street, some might think it is a 5-Series that has an M-Kit and M-Exhaust. 2. If this color get discontinued after the facelift (like what happened with the 7-Series), then it might be perceived as an old color. All in all, I am in love with: - MCB - Deep Sea Blue (DSB) - Imperial Blue (IB). Any thoughts are welcomed... |

my personal favorite is Citrin Black, but since you want a dark blue(ish) color, Azurite Black would be perfect!

If you want something in between go for Le Mans Blue. Much nicer and more exclusive than DSB.
Bimmerpost member tuned-in has a Le Mans Blue f10. Look it up. http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=667614

...and to add another one to the mix; Tanzanite Blue is an individual color on the F30/31 - and it is amazing with Champagne interior!

I actually find Monte Carlo Blue to be much much nicer than Le Mans.

1) DSB will just make your car look like a regular 5 series M-Sport. Not unique at all. Same issue faced by people who get Space Gray, Imperial Blue or Alpine White. 2) I did a close comparison of DSB and IB when I bought my old 550i and I concluded that IB is better. IB is a Xirallic color and it really pops in the sun. The DSB is lighter but it doesn't sparkle as much. MCB also has a good sparkle to it like all of BMWs newest paints. I think the real choice should be between San Marino Blue and Monte Carlo Blue. I think the MCB suits the M5 better. The San Marino Blue is very nice too though and would have the advantages you describe above of being unique and a balance between lighter and darker.

Meh. My X5M was MCB, but as much as I loved it I wanted something a little deeper blue.

I find MCB looks infinitely better at southern latitudes. My car looks much brighter and deeper like an electric blue under the Miami sun. It didn't look anywhere near as radiant in Munich. So I'm not surprised you didn't like the color as much in Alberta. You don't have enough ambient sunlight for MCBs xirallic content to glow. In Saudi Arabia, you will find this color looks deeper and glossier than in northern climates.

I am fan of tanzanite blue as well. How much more is it to order an 'off menu' individual paint? I know the opting for azurite or moonstone is an additional 1800, but I've heard as much as 3500-5000 for other individual options.

In Europe there's a tiering of color option costs based on whether the color is in the standard BMW program, part of BMW Individual or if it's a special request color not in the BMW program at all

As much as those individual colors are "individual", I LOVE that Monte Carlo Blue on the F10. I just was looking at one in the United BMW showroom the other day. MCB on Black. Very hot car. BMW didn't really make the M5 stand out as much against the 550i in the F10 model so I think going with a color unique to the M5 is a good way to make it noticeable.
