Does anyone have executive level contact information for BMW USA (VP of Marketing or Development)? My dealer GM is raising these issues too, but I'd like to get directly to someone who can get something done. Customer Service is worthless, other than speaking the party line. If everyone interested in getting this capability working were to contact their CA and better yet dealer GM, BMW USA might start getting a message, and perhaps some positive action could result.

Same here. My dealer really wants to help me out and get my system upgraded. He even tried a couple of tricks, but no go.

That is very strange. I just updated two M5's a few days ago. Purchased a USB drive, and did not format it.. just drag and dropped the one file (no other files existed on drive). Sounds like you have had this issue for a while, but have you tried that?
What version are you trying to upgrade from? What version are you trying to upgrade to?

Have you tried reformatting the drive to FAT32 and uploading the file directly to the root folder of the drive? Also make sure there is no other media or folders. If that doesn't work then tell me the version that you have installed (settings>software update>show current version). You may need to perform incremental updates (update to the next newest version, then to the newest version). That's all I can think about to try..

"10" is probably the name of the USB drive or name of the active folder?
