Which brand of gasoline is best for M5?
Here in Illinois, all the gas stations have 93-Octane gasoline.
The Citgo gas station is closest and most convenient to my house. I read in another post that Shell gasoline was recommended by C&D and Roundel due to their detergent additives. Does anyone feel that a more expensive 93-Octane gasoline (e.g. Shell, BP) is noticeably better for performance or for overall engine health compared to less expensive 93-Octane gasoline (e.g. Citgo)? Thanks, ihc

In Canada, we have Ultra94 from Petro Canada. I believe that's the best we can get from pumps off the street besides buying racing fuel from special stations.

Ultra94 has 10% ethanol. Shell V power 91 has 0% ethanol.
I pay for gas and I should get 100% gas, not mixture. |

I have been using BP Ultimate. Anybody correct me if I am wrong, but from what I have read, BP Ultimate is ethanol-free. The problem with having ethanol is that it readily mixes with water in the air (humidity) thereby having water molecules along with the gas molecules in the tank which is bad of the car (engine).

brands of gas are no different. Just they add there own additive, NONE ADD MORE PERFORMANCE TO YOUR CAR!. only two things proven, shells nitrogen enriched gas keeps your fuel injector clean is true, its not because its shell gas, nitrogen period cleans your engine and gas lines but it is not a necessity always. For chevron it was proven that there gas gives you a 1 or 2 miles less mpg.
the only thing matters is the octane you used. at the refinery all gas getting in and out has to meet certain standards of qualities and environmental laws for clean burning of gas. and at the gas pumps and the tanks at the gas stations have to have filters by law to make sure the gas is clean going in your car. |

Caused me to have all injectors replaced at 31k mikes in my 550i 2012 And M5 started having very rough idle and almost engine almost died on me because of same Shell Gas 93!! Switched to Exxon at nearest Walmart and zero problem so far and I am not sure this is Shell thing but rather this gas station specific!! But also had zero issues with BP but don't like to use it after what they did with spillage an all... My 2 cents

After reading about winter gas in the US, I decided to try Archoil AR6200-8.
So far I'm impressed! I have been using the same settings since it's been cold and using summer tires (yes, I am that stubborn!). Went from 16.4mpg to 18.4mpg! I didn't notice any increase in power with the M5, but my wife noticed a distinct power increase with her 2012 X5. Amazon.com |

Here's information on the benefits of Archoil AR6200-8.
Archoil AR6200-8 Again I'm really impressed with it. So much so we have stopped using Shell gas. Now we get the cheapest 91 octane gas available without any loss in power or MPG. |
