Faulty motor oil info from another dealership service department
Guys,
I just received another faulty info about the oil that should be used on our cars. As I sent enquiry to get quotes for making an additional oil change between the factory intervals, this dealer tells me that I will need 10w60 and I have to correct them. It is almost scary because they have now been servicing these F10 M5s for over a year now. I am afraid that there are some of us running out there with dealer filling the wrong motor oil which can cause damage to the engines. Please make sure your dealer uses the correct spec motor oil when they perform oil change for you. I would hate to see some critical damages happen due to that cause. BMW North America should have done a better job training in a case like this. Cheers,

As I stated in a previous post, the service manager at the dealership nearest to me gave me a bottle of 10w60 and when I questioned him about it not being the right stuff, he insisted that it was correct and that every M car since the beginning of time used the 10w60. He then told me to hold on for a few minutes, and went into the back of the shop somewhere. He came back and apologized that he was incorrect.
The part that concerned me the most was during our conversation about the 10w60 being incorrect, is when I had asked whether or not they had serviced any current model M5's, to which he stated a couple of them. I then asked, did you use the 10w60?, to which he responded, I am sure we did. So as stated by the OP, definitely ask about the oil changes and servicing. Seems there are a few dealerships that aren't aware of what to be using or doing. So I say, better to be safe than sorry. |

I am actually more worry about the fellow M5 owners who ain't forum members and not aware of such existing issue. There are about 5 BMW dealers that can be called locally here and I am going to send out emails to their service departments about this and make sure they are doing it the right way. Or to BMW NA and get them to notify the dealers across the country.

Bought some oil-5w-30 from the BMW dealer....was asking them who are the manufaturer of the oil since the container packaging only says BMW. Inquired whether I could use other alternative synthetic oil like castrol, mobil etc and they answered that BMW dont recommend it!!! These dealers are a load of BS.

Im a sales manager for a Honda dealership and the oil we use that says "Honda" on the bottle is really Mobil1. I wonder who provides BMW oil? I know the ins and outs at dealerships so i will request to see what oil theyre putting in my car and i will only go on a day where i can wait on the car....ill never "drop off" my M5 to be serviced. If you do drop off your car....expect a "test drive" to be taken and it will be spirited!

Happened to me as well. When taking delivery of my car the dealer gave me 10W60 and I had to pull teeth to correct them that it is for the V10 M5, the F10 uses 5w30 or 0w30... These dealerships just don't know and don't care, very problematic for uneducated customers:S
