$5 says it goes away in a week or two.
My first drive in my M5 had me thinking WTF because the vibration through the wheel was rough. Shortly after it was gone. Be patient. |

Try this. Put the steering in Comfort mode. I don't know if this fixes it but at first my car had this. I now use comfort steering and it is gone. Not sure of switching to comfort fixed it or if it just went away.
There are some threads on this board where we discuss proper settings and this is a key one. The "Sport+ steering was designed purely for straight line high speed acceleration (ie: Autobahn). At BMW Performance centers they track the car in comfort steering. Frankly, it changes the car dramatically and makes it massively more fun to drive. The "heavy" feel of the car instantly disappears. I was very reluctant to even try this as coming form an E60 I always had everything in Sport+ so this seemed counter-intuitive. The SECOND I changed everything I fell in love with the car. My current settings are Sport+ Throttle / Sport Suspension ? Comfort Steering although I have been told the Comfort Suspension is best for this car on the road for everyday driving and on the track as well. I just can't make myself take it off of Sport-lol! I will do so as soon as my H&R springs are installed. |

Agree with all points. I might not have been all so clear in my post though. I have had 7 AMG's two of which were the exact same chassis and weight distribution along with suspension and tire setup (both with different steering). Clearly to me, the electronic steering held the car back in higher speed bends than did the hydraulic variant... These were both E63's. Either way both cars dont have the same steering feel that my 6 M's have had. Just my ownership experience.

You can either pull the seat belt and latch it on the passenger seat's side bolster or paste any chair leg glide (black) stick-ons on the B-pillar to cushion away the noise.

Sadly, this does absolutely nothing. BMW AG has asked that I have a technician experience the issue, and then we go from there...

Ugh...yeah, was not sure if that was what corrected mine. I definitely had it and it made my hand numb. I guess it just went away on it's own. Really not such a good thing to be overlooked. How does it get past inspections when it seems so prominent?

Stop thinking about it and enjoy driving the car. Trust me on this, you won't notice it after a while. It does indeed go away with around 4k mile on the clock.

My service technican acknowledged that while they re-balanced all 4 wheels (that were in his words only out by a tiny margin), that the vibration was less(not to me) but still there even after the re-balancing excersize . I plan on bringing my car back into service in a week to have them go back and try to address this issue again with hopefully another solution. Fortunately I don't do alot of highway driving where this vibration/hum is quite annoying.

Have to agree here. Mine only has 2,600 miles on it and the vibration has been gone for quite a while. I am actually quite sure that it went away prior to my 1,200 mi service. In fact, I know it did. Drive it and enjoy it. Seems it has fixed itself for everyone else.

Have you tried balancing your front tires?

My LCI does not have this at all, I would be inclined to take it in personally, also the 2013 M5 I had for a week before buying did NOT do this at all and it was brand new (April build).

No the 2014 does not have the tuning fork vibration issue . I test drove 5 different ones over the course of 2 weeks from different dealers. However, the bottom seat cushion no longer tilts up as high as the 2013 model year (important for taller drivers I am 6'2"). Unfortunately 1 positive and 1 negative = 0 for me regarding two of my most important comfort issues . I stopped all negotiating and will ????

I have 8000 or so miles total and status... I'm going to have my friend who works for the dealer take a 14 out to confirm the change, then go from there. The weather is lousier here so I'm spending less time in the car now.

The issue is not a 2013 car issue - it's particular to your and racer10s cars. You have lemons. Both my 2013 and 2014 M5s have equally smooth vibration free steering. They feel the same. Your car sounds lemon law eligible. if after the third attempt the problem still exists, then you should send written notice to fix the car through a lemon law attorney. BMW will be required to fix the car within 10 days or buy it back for a very high percentage of the original price. Lemon law is awesome. http://www.lemonlawamerica.com/flori...w-statutes.htm

CNET's car reviewer, Brian Cooley, complained quite pointedly about this vibration in his otherwise positive and enjoyable review. i remember him saying that BMW had better get this fixed. When I first took my car on the freeway, sure enough, it was there and it freaked me out. However, it went away so quickly that I don't remember feeling it much past the first few drives. Now the whistling driver's side mirror…
