1st day questions
Okay, so I just picked the car up a few hours ago and already have a couple questions.
It seems that every time I start the car it is defaulted to D with all of the modes set to Eco, Comfort and Comfort. Is it possible to have the car remember your last settings? Or do I need to program M1 to be the every day settings and M2 for when I really get on it? Next, floor mats. I've got them, but they are just plain black. Do they no longer have the ///M5 logo on them?

I'm not worried about the setting prior to 1,200 miles. They have no real impact as long as I keep it under the guidelines suggested. All it does is change throttle response time. It can't do any harm as long as you are gentle on the throttle.

I recommend to always keep the throttle response in Sport Plus to learn how to deal with the extremely sensitive throttle response.
My day to day driving is suspension: comfort; steering: comfort; Throttle response: Sport plus, Gearbox: S2. But when at least when I keep the throttle response in sport plus at all time, it doesn't take me by surprise when I drive the car spiritedly. Just my 0.02 cents. |

what about all this 'hard run in' talk...? what process have you/are you going to follow having read all the opinions on here and from the dealer? drive hard from the outset or break in gently? I swear my M3 is quicker n loader than others due to me driving it hard from the start. never uses oil either...

Why do you need to keep it under 3k rpm. During the break-in period you just need to keep it under 100mph and under 5500 rpm. I kept all mine in sport plus mode except for steering (sport) and used s3 during my break-in period.

You will be fine in "M" Mode from the off, just warm up the Oils to temp and go.

at another period I said you could not go over 5000 rpm. I meant once over 3000rpm when on sport plus on the throttle you would easily go over 4000 to 5000 rpm. and I Doubt its okay for the car to go 100mph on the break in period. but each person is different with the cars. its up to you how you want to treat it in the beginning stages.

I think everyone has their own way of breaking in the car. And, ya know what, everyone is right. It is each their own car and they can do with it as the please. If I were going to follow something to the letter, it would be what is written in the manual though, not what the dealer says (but again, that is just my opinion, not fact).
As for me, I do my best to keep it under 5,500 RPM. However, if I accidentally go over it once or twice before 1,200 miles I'm not the least bit worried. With my E90 M3 I exceeded the break in guidelines and it was also purchased right off the lot with about 70 miles on it. I know that it had been pushed a bit on test drives. It never needed a single drop of oil outside of the scheduled maintenance. Now, back on topic... Can someone please find a way to get the car to remember the previous drivelogic settings!
