MY M3 Test drive review
Hi All, drove the new M3 today, bright sunny conditions.
Car came in Black metallic with Red Leather. Not my cup of tea, but the M4 in the showroom was just great in it’s colour. Which was Silverstone Grey Metallic. First impressions : It feels more like a “Boy racer” come “Go Cart” to me. Most suited to tight “B” road blasting, it handled the corners on “A/B” roads very well. I went hard at it, but the car is forgiving and largely kept it’s line through the corners with little over/under steer. Interior very 3 series and nothing special at all, this lets the whole car down IMO, just too cheap looking. Seats: Sports Seats look great, but were not very comfortable for me, especially over a long distance they would give me a neck ache. Upgraded “M multi-function seats” (if available) would be my choice. Rear seats had good knee room, but again a bit upright for us on a longish journey could prove a problem for some. Boot looked small. Rear seats folded. The car is and felt very light and at a steady 80 MPH shows 2200 RPM in7th. Exhaust sound was ok over 5K RPM but droned a bit at lower RPM and whilst cruising, this again may upset some so a long test drive is what I would recommend to all. Was It as quick as my LCI........................NO sorry it was not. The M5 is just bonkers fast in comparison in our opinion. I us my wife as a gauge for tyre mashing , and she agreed the M5 is KING. Straight line speed the M3 was out gunned, but give it a twisty road and it would win. Do I want one?. NO my M6 GC CP will be more to my liking, with a classy interior to match. Just my view guys, go test and report yourselves. M4 Pictured.

Thx for the review. Like the black wheels pictured above. I need the space for the kids, so glad I got the M5. How did the M3 ride compared to the M5 with CP? Harsher, softer?

Seemed a lot harsher but I was mainly in Sport /Sport/ and Sport+ engine, it defiantly felt the road bumps/imperfections more.

I drove the M4 today and I actually thought it felt 'about' as quick as the M5. It certainly didn't struggle to get the power down. Amazing car and I was pretty impressed with the engine note considering the negative reviews. Would I swap for the M5, no but I did think it was a stonking bit of kit!

Thanks for the review... interesting.
I popped by to see the M3/4 in the flesh yesterday, sat in it but avoided the test drive even though it was offered, as I've already arranged to have it for a day next week. I originally ordered an M4 back in Sep 13, but cancelled it in Nov for an M5 as I got fed up of waiting. At the moment from the impressions... the M5 is far better. I think the M4 may feel a little more fun to drive, but the luxury will be gone as will the exclusivity that an M5 has. Makes you think though, whats the new M5 going to be like!? Will know more next week! PS I didn't like the exhaust one bit. I heard the M3 drive off under power whilst in the M4 and it sounded rubbish IMO. Mat

I test drove this one... Drove great. After 5000rpm. But not really a patch on the m5's sheer grunt and presence. We made the right choice Mat!,

Interesting... I am currently of the same opinion and trying to be unbiased as well.
I forgot to say... My normal sales guy wasn't there and seeing as I just dropped by I ended up meeting someone new at the dealership. He took great interest in my M5. Our discussions were more about it than the M4 I was sat in infact. He wanted to come and see my car and when we walked out to it there was a lovely E92 M3 in frozen grey. The owner came out over to us and he loved it. I let him sit in it. So a guy who came to see the new M4 and a sales rep seemed more interested in my M5. Says something. Mat |

Concur on all accounts.
I think the M4 would be worth it for me if I did a crazy Individual build with Alcantara covering basically all of the areas that the Full leather Package doesn't cover. A nice piggyback tune and straightpiped exhaust would be necessary for me to keep it.

"i just seen an M4!!!!!!!" me... "what did it look like?? was it better than the M5????" "no way...... it just looked like a 4 series" me.. "we won't try one out then??" "NO"...... ok you win........ we stick with the M5...
