2014 F10 M5 Comp Package Exhaust to AKRA?
For those of you that own or have owned a 2014 F10 M5 with Full Competition Package ...
My question is this, "Is there any noticeable difference between the sound of the OEM Competition Exhaust vs. the BMW OEM Akrapovic Performance Exhaust?" I just went from 2013 M5 to 2014 M5 Competition Package. There is a huge difference in the sound of the OEM (Non Comp Package) exhaust on the 2013 M5 vs the OEM Competition Package exhaust on the 2014 M5 with Competition Package! I have the BMW Akrapovic Performance Exhaust that I took off the 2013 but am not sure if I should re-install on the 2014 as the Comp Pack exhaust sounds SWEET! I have both the Titanium exhaust tips and the Carbon Fiber Tips for the BMW AKRA exhaust. Just post if you have had experience with the scenario. Thanks! as far as i expirienced, i had an m5 before i crashed and got an m6. i bought the akrapovic exhaust for the m5, didnt really notice THAT much difference, added ams downpipes to it, GLORY. but frankly speaking for almost 10k youd expect more, i know i did. i went with the meisterschaft gtc exhaust on my m6, i truly love it, it rumbles mad. but then again, different tastes, different people. for me personally. gorgeous downrevings, very mild sounding. not worth it.

Not familiar with either in person, but would be interested in buying what ever you decide to not go with .

I have CP exhaust, my mate has a 15 CP with Akra. Sound difference marginal IMO. The engineering on the Akra is great, but maybe not worth the effort of removing your CP exhaust.

That being said, I will probably not re-install the AKRA. My BMW mechanic thinks I should try it out; I think I should pass on that. Thanks for your valuable feedback! |

Install the Akra. I ordered my M5 with the MPE exhaust as I did a back-to-back comparison between CP and MPE at a dealership and the MPE was much better. CP made a cool popping noise, but overall the Akra was much more well rounded.

it would work with any exhaust, it really makes a big big difference, you can hear the spool of the turbos more and the pops are louder when shifting, it def give you more power, specially if you buy de-catted downpipes, which i didnt because i cant bear the CEL. however the catted downpipes sure do what they are meant to do. its as far as me, the best mod ive given my m5 and m6.

When you say the MPE was much better or much more well rounded than the CPE, how would you describe the difference in sound characteristics? |

Adding DPs will change the sound; things get angry! Power is an added benefit as well, catted or catless.

My mechanic at BMW installed the MPE/AKRA today and we did a before and after assessment ...
The MPE is overall a significantly louder exhaust, the sound is open and raspy and you can hear the turbo whine through the exhaust when under deceleration. At about 5000 RPM's it sounds like a true race exhaust. The CP exhaust sounds deep and throaty at low RPM's but the volume in sound subsides a bit once at cruising speed. It sounds awesome. (Soooo much better than the NON-CP OEM exhaust ) but does not have the aggressive tonal characteristics of the 35 lb lighter MPE. If I owned the NON-CP OEM exhaust, I would definitely upgrade to the MPE/AKRA or OEM CP exhaust. If I did not already own the MPE/AKRA I would not purchase it as the OEM CP exhaust sounds great. That being said, the construction on the MPE/AKRA far exceeds that of the CP and the NON-CP OEM exhaust. Last edited by GetSoM5; 03-26-2015 at 10:45 PM.. Reason: additional info |
