Blown Engines (as in kaboom not forced induction)
Recently heard of a **tuned engine blowing up and owner needing to replace it. I won't mention names, locations, whether it was rods or piston, or even if the owner posts here. The tune may or may not have been the main cause, but it was a factor in that additional power wears items faster. I wont say whether it was **piggyback or **DME flash, but I can certainly say owner was making north or 650whp.
For those of you that are wanting to push the limits I suggest not beating the car too much! Get a reliable meth system, proper tune from reputable tuner, and change the oil frequently. The s63tu is bulletproof, not MIRV-proof. Happy Holidays! |

There are over 20-30 blown s63tu's for various reasons.... if it's setup well it will last.
Everybody is quiet because 90% went in for warranty! |

I will tell you I was pushing some good power and I drove my car hard. Reliable mods, tune, and power levels that are reasonable for a stock engine. My car made it to 44k before I traded in. I know two others pushing well over 70k on a tuned car. So far only changes are normal wear and tear including clutches. These ares are great cars.

I'm almost at 89k now. Knock on wood I've only had small issues since 11/2012. Same issues as any regular owner. Mines been tuned since they came out. Started w the Lil piggy. Then when the "tune" came out I was all in. I went from BR to a mild Br file that Eurocharged put in to a now a fantastic HCP tuned car. This one is a keeper. I can't invision this car wo a tune. I won't never go jb or meth because that's not my style. For others to push it further I think it's great because we are able to see how great this motor really is. I can't wait to see if anybody ever decides to fully stroke out this car and make it a badazz evil one.

Gotta make friends and take care of your local SAs and techs. It goes a long way with them.

I don't expect you to let us know the specialized tweaks you give your new motor, but have you looked into aftermarket basics like crank, rods, and pistons? Looking at part numbers, the M5 uses the same rods as the 550, but a different crank and pistons. No telling if there's a major construction difference with those, or more probably some slight production variation. Any tips toward the aftermarket would be appreciated.

There is well more than 20-30 unfortunately. I've heard from BMW direct by a guy who runs the PUMA case program nationally that its over 50. As a result, it's driven a change in their policy. If anyone is curious, drop me a PM and we can chat by phone.

Not sure this is the place to discuss a blown engine if under warranty or CPO especially if tuned or modded which a lot of the forum members are.

Too risky IMO even anonymously. And then there's those on here who will judge. Not sure it's worth the trouble.

I don't believe there injector choices for this platform - fuel pressure and secondary fuel systems will be the way - Fuel-it/BMS are workingon a E85 system now and I am sure others are.
Or use meth injection which is how I believe Allmotor is achieving his fueling needs over the tune. |
