Preview: 2010 BMW M5
Next year will see the launch of two critical models for German labels BMW and Mercedes-Benz, with both the next-generation 5-series and E-Class sedans plus their different variants expected to be released over the next 12 months. Mercedes-Benz will be first to the table with the launch of its new E-Class and subsequent E63 due at next year’s Geneva Motor Show, however later that same year BMW will unveil its next-generation 5-series.
The car will likely debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in the second half of the year and could be joined by the high-performance M5 as well. This latest rendering gives us an early look at a possible design for the new car, revealing that will likely adopt influences from the current M3 but will also feature a pronounced grille and a smoother overall shape than the current model. A V10 engine will return but could be enhanced with a pair of turbochargers and an extra 500cc in displacement. Expect to see power levels up around the 550 to 580hp mark to bring it into line with Audi’s recently revealed RS6. The likely transmission will be BMW’s new M-DCT dual-clutch system, as found in the M3. Performance will also be improved thanks to the extensive use of lightweight materials including carbon-fiber and aluminum. The car’s construction will be a hybrid of an aluminum spaceframe for the front section, and a traditional steel monocoque for the passenger compartment and rear. This will ensure a favorable front-to-rear weight distribution and improved handling. Up front will be an independent suspension with MacPherson struts, with a multi-link layout for the rear. Expect to see an unpainted carbon roof and more of the lightweight material possibly used for the boot and fender panels. Source: http://www.motorauthority.com/news/s...bmw-m5-saloon/ |

BMW has really lost its way when it comes to design. If only Audi* had better QC and better dealers, I would jump ship in an instant. *I seriously hope someone from Audi USA reads these posts, because their dealer network is truly awful and BMW's is heading that way....quickly. |

yes, the rear does look like a lexus rear.
the headlights look like the future next gen 3 series lights. the grill looks a bit to aggressive/big . overall it does flow well, (as usual)

This is a stupid photoshop, I bet it will look nothing like this. The "M5" has everything the M3 has, even the hood bulge and vents. I would take all this with a grain of salt guys.

I like it. The M5 version with the bilge in the hood will prob be the next signaure of M cars. We will prob start seeing this all throughout the M models. Looks good IMO.

Totally disagree, I think it's the most updated look on the car

I actually think the rear is an enormous improvement over the current 5 series, which I feel is the biggest BMW blunder in the history of the company.

ugly photoshop. ugly. the rear on the current e60 is like best design piece, and to lost that, at the day when BMW can't seem to come up with a convincing rear end for its cars, is a mistake IMHO!

i really like the back of this car acutally.....it goes back to BMW's roots, simple cut and classy. I think this car has potential. I also like how they extended the bumper to be higher so there isnt a big gap like in the current cars where the hood meets the bumper. I hope it turns out nicely, todays BMW's are so ugly compared to the older genrerations. e36-e46 ftw!!!

really... a horrible PS. its absolutely disproportionate. i hope this is NOT what it looks like.
yeah, it looks decent, for a lexus. DEF not BMW appropriate. but then again, IMHO, the current E60 IS perfect, and to improve on that design with a complete new one, is a near impossible task. so i cant be too angry with BMW if they come out with something that is under my standards. i wish all the folks at BMW the best of luck trying to do better than the current E60. if i was faced with that task, id give up immidiately, so i wont make myself look like a fool. i really wanna see how they will manage to top the current 5 series. go ahead bmw. blow me the fuck away.

I don't like the M5 renderings... it looks identically as the M3, just a lil more buffy... I would like to see BMW completely re-design its M5 because it shouldn't really look as the M3... these are two different cars... plus it'll be more attractive...
They definitely need some new designers over there... lets just hope Chris Bangle is more visionary ;- |
