A few years back fords had a fire problem. They would flame up when left alone. I think it was also engine related spark

For some reason this thread made me look at Porsche. I like the C4S and always liked the Turbo S.
But a 8250rpm engine in a 911 would probably be a very fun car to add to the stable. Miss my E60 M5 no more.. Does that coasting feature work well? Seems cool. I always wanted a coasting feature in the M5 where if you pulled both paddles you could enter Neutral.

I met a GT3 owner last night (991) and his GT3 is grounded in front of his house. The dealer told him to leave it there and don't drive it until they figure out whats wrong. This is straight from an owner. The dealer gave him a Panny Turbo to drive in the interim....

I don't know why people aren't driving their GT3's. If you have a pair of P mittens, all is good.

Newest Update.
Looks likes it's worse than we thought. Sounds like the engine block itself is cracking! I wouldn't plan on getting one anytime soon. This sounds bad. http://www.gtspirit.com/2014/03/17/p...911-gt3-fires/

Been reading up on this the past month. This is the latest:
"Dear _____________ [Title] [Last_Name]: As advised previously, engineers at Porsche AG have been conducting technical analysis of the Porsche 911 GT3 engine in order to find a solution to the problem which led us to recommend you stop driving your car. This analysis is now completed, and we would like to inform you about the cause of the problem and the planned remedial actions. As already communicated, two vehicles in Europe suffered engine damage, causing the vehicles to catch fire. Analysis has revealed that in both cases the engine damage was caused by a loosened piston rod screw connection which damaged the crankcase. In order to avoid this in the future, an optimized screw connection is currently being tested. For the final validation of this solution, Porsche AG is currently carrying out extensive tests. At Porsche we are rigorous when implementing an engineering solution, therefore, after the successful testing and validation we will be installing new engines with optimized piston rod screw connections in all 2014 Porsche 911 GT3 vehicles. Due to the complexity of the necessary arrangement, we are currently unable to provide you with a specific workshop date for your Porsche 911 GT3. We will be arranging an appointment with you individually, as soon as the logistics planning is finalized. We will be providing you with additional information within the next three weeks. We continue to remain committed to supporting your individual needs during this time. Your personal contact person will make contact with you within the next days to discuss individual solutions to bridge the gap until you are reunited with your Porsche 911 GT3. Thank you very much for your patience and your loyalty to the Porsche brand. Kind regards, Tim Quinn Vice President, AfterSales Porsche Cars North America, Inc."

Dayumm! A whole new engine! I was one of the guys affected by the bad oil pump when the first F10 M5's came out. I can't imagine something like this, where BMW would tell me, yeah we're going to replace your entire engine. The 991 GT3 owners probably are not going to be able to drive their GT3's for like another 6 months. Imagine having to build all those new engines, then deliver them, then install them! I'd rather just tell Porsche to take the GT3 back and go with another brand until a time when GT3's are all fixed. So crazy.

I'm not sure which is a bigger fail? The new GT3 or the girls of 2013? LOL!
