No I think they did a fantastic job with this generations M3 comfort level, with the exception of the long term comfort-ability of the seats. The luxury aspect is definitely not on the same level or even close. It's all about the little things between the two cars in terms of luxury. What turns me away from the M3 and M4 is the lack of luxury feel and look to it, but it is very comfortable.

Sounds like a nice improvement over the previous generation m3 and thanks for the review.
One side note though: Coming from the Porsche family, I would say it would be prudent to test drive the new Cayman GTS if you are looking for a track oriented car (unless you need the rear seats)! I know this is a m3 - m5 comparison, but thought I would throw in another consideration. Dave |

I initially had ordered the F80 M3, but since we are expecting a little one I decided to go with comfort and luxury. Not to sacrifice the sportiness and your casual need for speed, I believe the M5 filled that void. Having owned the last 2 generation of M3s, I can honestly say, you get spoiled driving the M5.

Great review (and much as suspected, apart from the steering) - I would have expected an M3 launch car in a more existing colour to highlight that aggressive body kit. Mika makes that M3 look dreary.

Just test drove it at lunch time.
I'm very impressed comparing it to my E92 M3; the price is outrageous though. I certainly won't trade in my M5 for it, even if my M5 is slower/heavier. I cannot compare the two as they are very different animals. As terms of comfort in suspension being anywhere equal , I believe RPi is dead wrong; probably because his car is lowered. I immediately noticed the stiff suspension, lower center of gravity, road noise, and road vibrations. The engine/exhaust noise is actually very impressive and the acceleration is wonderful! The suspension does feel a bit more aggressive than my non-ZCP E92 M3, but it may have been due to how I am already acclimated to my daily driver E92. I am tempted to trade my E92 M3 + for this, but realistically, I feel a little short changed in the lack of RPMs when driving a sporty car like this (regardless of more power) 2nd-3rd gear on DCT will knock you back in your seat very much like how an E60 M5 SMG would. I wish my 6MT would feel that great.

Anyways I'm not the kind of guy to start sh*t up on the forums so I'm just biting my tongue for now. I will say this though, my biggest likes for the new M3 and M4 is that it does FEEL a lot more sportier than the M5 and M6, especially when it comes to the interior sound of the engine and exhaust, but could never trade down for one because it FEELS to me like I'm driving a cheaper car overall. I'm not talking about the lack of a Bang & Olufsen sound system or soft close doors here, I'm talking about the quality of the basic materials inside of the M3/M4, such as the stereo volume control knob, the digital display of the temperature controls, the low resolution of the instrument cluster, the headliner, the headlight control switch, the rear view mirror, the size of the iDrive screen, etc, etc all made me feel like I was sitting in a much cheaper car, which I in fact was. For me personally, I guess I'm just too spoiled by the higher quality materials and design of the M5 and M6, which is what always turned me on to those cars in the first place and why I have never considered an M3 before this generation's F8x. In another 5-6 years we'll have an M5 all carbon fiber'd out from the factory, under 4,000lbs and it will FEEL much better when driving it on the racetrack anyways. Lol!

Vic no offence to those people but I'm wondering how they dare comparing M4 to M6???? completely different cars!!!!! I mean M3/M4 may be the best M car for track since they are light and small compare to M5/M6 but as Dave are always referring to, the luxurious, the power, the beauty ,.... HUGE difference
