New M5 owner coming from Porsche GT3: Pics and comparative first impressions
Hi all,
I'm a new M5 owner coming from a 996 Porsche GT3 mk II, which was a "forced" change after having our first child and the GT3 no longer being a viable option. The M5 was a logical replacement as it offers the best of both worlds in terms of performance and comfort / space. First impressions are that the M5 is significantly quicker in a straight line. And... it's a bit of a beast with regards to power + torque... Low speed and put your foot down in 3rd gear and you're snaking all over the place! Good fun but definitely takes some getting used to Ofcourse, it can't match the GT3 in terms of responsiveness, agility and feedback. The handling of the GT3 also inspired a lot more confidence, but perhaps i need to become more familiar with the M5 in this regard before i can really compare. The one thing that has stood out for me is how quiet the M5 is (granted i'm comparing to a GT3 which had a cat-bypass straight pipe), but i'm planning on doing some minor mods on the M5 to add a bit of vocal grunt (catless downpipes + sport exhaust). Other mods i'm considering in the short term will be JB4 software and perhaps the GruppeM induction system. Here are some pics of the new baby... I look forward to engaging with you all on the forum! |

Very nice -- congrats and welcome.
I've been seeing very favorable things about M6Beast's custom intake. Consider that over alternatives: http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1026137

Welcome and congratulations! Yeah, no comparison really. The GT3 is just an awesome road race car that you happen to be able to drive on the street. But, you're now into a car that does a lot of things really well. One of the best for matching luxury and performance. Especially good when you just need more room. Good luck, looking forward to seeing your mods.

Looks a lot like mine!
I was in South Africa two years ago. We stayed in Capetown and Lion Sands Ivory Lodge private game reserve. It was certainly a great experience. Welcome and take care, Dave |
