Painting Chrome trim to black gloss
Has anyone painted the chrome trim on the grills, side fenders, rear emblem and door strips. I know a lot of guys have wrapped in vinyl, but I kind of like the idea of a black gloss paint finish?
For those who have, how has it held up? I think I’ve got the process down, so essentially; sand, de grease, primer (3 coats), wet sand (between coats), paint (3 coats), wet sand, clear coat (3 coats), polish/wax. Any recommendations on what paint to use, tips on getting a good finish? Cheers |

I did my front grilles a while ago. Waste of time. Stone chips everywhere. rubbed down, 3 layers undercoat, 4 layers black gloss, 4 layers lacquer.
Front end gets too much of a battering, not helped with current weather and all the grit on the roads. Will be fine elsewhere on the car I suspect
