BMW Winter Tire Set Sold Out
Although I have put the M5 away for the winter I was thinking maybe I should drive it all year. However when I went to buy the BMW winter tire set on Wednesday , I found out that they are sold out and the U. S. will not be restocked until end of December to early January . So by that time I think I just stay with the original plan .

Yes, what happened is that the Winter started early in Europe this year. And it's been pretty cold for a while now, actually first snow in Munich was in October! So people rushed to get their Winter kits... I did get my set from Niederlassung actually just got the bill for them... I made a really good deal on the 408M's

complete set is with Pirelli W240 Sotto Series 2 255/40/19 square.
I did not go with 408M complete set. Instead, I chose 345M with my own selection of tire, went with Michelin PA4 265/40/19 square |

Just curious - why 265 over 255?

Both are acceptable.
The Michelin PA4 - V rated 255/40/19 comes with Asymmetical design 265/40/19 comes with Directional design Since the 255 series are in extreme short supply in North America (at the time I bought the tires), my tire shop advised me I can go 265 which has the identical spec for the front anyway and by going square, the 265 will have no issue for the rear. Lastly, I am not a fan of Pirelli. My second choice would have been Bridgestone LM60 (but this is only H rated tire) |

^ I had Blizzak before on my past car but it wore a bit faster than others. I also had Dunlop M3 & 3D and both are very good. That's why I am trying the Michelin PA4 this time to see how they handle the winter.

I'm running Blizzacks and have been very happy with them. Very good dry traction, yet still good in the snow. Contrary to the other post, I've found the wear to be very good. I bought them lightly used and have since run them for 3 or 4 seasons and they still have more than half the tread remaining.

I guess I got lucky.
I purchased and installed my 408M wheels with Pirellis about 3 weeks ago. I placed an order from my SA from my dealership. 408M winter tires package looks really nice on the F10 M5... =) Last edited by puffysheep; 11-24-2012 at 09:33 PM.. |

This is a repost from the other winter wheel thread.
Here's some shots of the BMW OEM recommended winter wheel (model 408). They look pretty good, although the back wheels could use a bit more offset.
