ordering 2014, no led?
Placing my order for a new 2014 M5. I am trying to keep cost down because I plan on selling it in a year and have a bad taste after taking a bath on my A7 (bang and olufsen 5900, innovation 6100 but get zip for trade in on those).
So I am planning on just getting must haves which I feel are exec and 20's. I also am doing the full leather simply because I love that feature and i know it will also bring zero at buy back time. My only issue is the LED lights. Personally, its not a much have to me (have them now on the A7 meh at best IMO. However, is this one of the options that people will consider must haves down the road? I'm looking for honest feedback not preferences. Thanks! I'm excited! |

I think you will get something back for the LEDs when you sell it. Not $1900, but something. The LEDs are a item that most people seem to be getting/wanting for the 2014. When you sell it/trade it, they will be more desirable and make the car more marketable I think. And they look HOT!!!

Doubt you will get the first penny on a trade but you may entice a buyer over another without LED. More of an issue of making it easier to sell than monetary return.

I'm fine with everything on the pre-lci. Lights, grills, and touch pad idrive isn't a big deal for me. Carbon Ceramic Brakes would have been cool to have the first year though!

My thought is if you are worried about options and their costs and are an annual flipper of cars, you're doing it wrong...
If that's what you really prefer, buy a base model... You first year loss from depreciation will be minimized.

LEDs are so popular now and you will get more trade in value in a year with it vs. other not as popular options. Also, White will bring in the best resale value.

LCI without LED don't have LED turn signals, just a "good old" halogen bulb... So LCI without LED headlights actually has lower spec turn signals in the front than pre LCI cars...
One more reason to go LED |

Best rule of thumb is to option out the car with as many options as your budget can afford. Now as we all know a car is going to depreciate so you can't expect to get all your money back, just isn't going to happen. However for us we see most used car buyers are looking for a fully loaded car with all the bells and whistles. You will have better luck recouping some of your investments the more options your car has. Just my 2 cents.

First, have you seen what used 2013 M5s are going for these days? If you're pissed about your Audi experience, just wait until you try and offload the F10 in a year :-/

YEP no doubt, but I have seen them and they IMO are not much better than STD and not worth the outlay.

I ordered LED's based on aesthetics alone. I will be pleasantly surprised if the LED's provide significantly better illumination vs. the already great xenons, but I don't expect this to be the case.
It sounds like you don't really care much either way. In this case, don't add them, they certainly won't appreciate in value over time. |

thanks for the responses, appreciate all input. I would love to have them but I know they will not bring in more money. Im doing ED. Looking to sell the car around 80k in a year which would work out to 1000 a month.

The interesting thing about car dealers is they tell you options are worthless on trade in but if you are buying used car from them they'll charge you an extra 10k for an A7 with B&O and Innovation. I know because I was shopping for a 2012 used A7 for my mum.
