Ordering at invoice price in the US
Do you guys think it will be hard to find a dealer to order the M5 when it becomes available for ordering in the US (I assume July?) for invoice price + $500 since there is limited spots available in the beginning

I'd think they'll be able to get pretty close to full sticker at the beginning

Someone correct me if things have changed but dealers are only given a limited number of build slots (period) for M5s it is not like every dealer gets x number per month- dealers need to "earn" to get M5 allocations so I doubt highly that with the demand of a new product any dealer is going to sell for less than sticker at first. Might be waiting a while if you are trying to get it that low. And M5s come out of allocation for Euro Delivery and they lose CSI money on them so that is a pipe dream as well.

doubtful. The M5 will not sell like the M3 and therefore the market will not be flooded. Personally, I would never sell one at 500$ over cost.

dealership wants $5K - $10K over MSRP
I am in the Bay Area in California and just got off the phone with the salesman. I was waiting for the order bank to be opened in the last two weeks and he just told me the dealership might add $5K-10K over the MSRP when the car arrive and they want 5K deposit. 4-5 months wait + $5K deposit + high possibility of $5K - 10K over MSRP. Should I wait or walk ? Thanks in advance for the feedback. |

What I don't quite understand.
Anybody seriously considering purchasing a car of this magnitude obviously is very successful in their professional career. So why do so many people find it surprising that in an environment where you have a product in high demand you will have little chance of negotiating favorable terms? That's business folks! |

Don't overreact
It doesn't matter what this guy tells you; it matters what the price is. Of course a salesman is going to test people and see what happens. I was told the same thing and I simply said, "I could probably do that."
A few dealers later the dealer called and said that "... he had a meeting with the owner and decided to sell me the car at MSRP." I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of non-serious buyers are wasting a lot of dealer time so some pre-screens are legit. I am putting my $5k deposit down this morning. I'm paying a premium, like anyone who buys one of only 3000 cars made in a year, but I'm not paying over sticker and neither should you. David |

From what we have heard from dealers around us they are going to be going for MSRP all the way to 5%, 10% over MSRP it sucks but you will see just like the 1m the dealers will be trying to get top dollar for them. Like everything though Im sure if you are patient you can get one for a pretty solid deal after the first year they are out, unless the demand is still through the roof then it could be the same price for a while.

At this stage of the game for the E60 launch, unless you had MSRP pricing locked down already, you were looking at long waits and/or premiums over MSRP for the first 6 months or so of deliveries. BMW of SF always led the pack, asking $25K over. Others were $5K-10K over (or had LOONG waiting lists if selling at MSRP). I think it was 12-18 months before below MSRP deals were common in strong markets / big cities (although I am sure some good deals happened in isolated cases).
That said, it was 2005/06, so economy was a lot better.... |
