There was a recent thread saying comfort access is only available in the executive package. When building it on BMWUSA there is no comfort access included in there, so i believe they changed it to just a standard option.

Looks that way. And that's great news

So are soft close doors/trunk really that expensive to fix? I just ask because it's seems that everyone hates that part of the executive package.

Uh, wouldn't that be covered under warranty? Has that option even existed long enough for a significant number of non-warranty claims to come in on the other BMW models that offer it?

The 550i's door close motors are about $400 each, just parts.

It's been around since the E60 and maybe even on the 7 before that, don't remember. But you can still look up the parts cost. As for reliability, that's trickier to say, but considering how useless this feature is in the first place IMHO, I'll pass on yet more weight, complexity, and potential breakage.

I don't think so. Sat Radio doesn't show up in the Executive Package either, and they've listed "Smartphone Integration" now, which is implied anyway by BMW Apps. Both Comfort Access and Sat Radio are listed in the Ordering Guide as part of that package but also available as no-charge standalone options (though not standard). I found that suspect initially, not so much that they'd be available standalone, but that they'd be no-charge options if they were. At this point I'm guessing that in reality, neither of those will be available standalone, nor will they be standard, and the configurator is just wrong; it wouldn't be the first time a new model has launched with bad configurator data. The M3 initially had incorrect package info after the MY2012 changes, and the 1M had issues before that. But I just PMed BMWNA_MGuy (Matt Russell, BMWNA M Brand Manager) about this and referenced this thread, so hopefully he chimes in.

If they're not standard or available standalone, that would be a major bummer for me because I want to avoid the Exec Package, not so much for the cost but because it includes options that I would prefer not to have even if they were free, primarily ventilated seats since they don't work well and the perforations make cleaning harder, and power tailgate and soft-close doors for high repair/replacement costs -- but I really like CA!! Oh well, maybe the fact that even without CA the car can be started without putting the key in the slot is enough. Pressing the fob to lock/unlock the doors isn't so bad, though it's a bit more irritating with the trunk, especially considering July production 5ers get the new "wiggle your foot under the bumper to open the trunk" feature as part of Comfort Access.

Another fun tidbit from the configurator: Carbon ceramic brakes are NOT covered by Ultimate Service. And they note "Replacement of these rotors is more expensive than replacement costs of conventional steel/aluminum brake rotors". If Porsche parts costs are anything to go by (and it seems they are considering the option pricing is similar), try ~$4K per rotor compared to ~$400 for steel -- yeah, I'd definitely call that more expensive!

Nice understatement, BMW. Add to that the caveat that "M Carbon Ceramic Brakes are vulnerable to damage from stones and other debris, and must be replaced if damaged or dropped", so if you kick up rocks on an off-track excursion or even nick the rotor while removing or remounting a wheel, you need to replace that rotor and maybe the one on the opposite side of the axle to maintain balance. Pretty pricey proposition, both upfront and over time.

I'd be worried that if I got them, I'd want to keep the car a bit longer than when they wore out, but not so much longer that I'd be able to stomach paying the huge replacement cost since I'd only use a fraction of the new set -- I could also see these actually hurting resale from prospective second owners not wanting to worry about that massive impending replacement cost. But a few reviews here have mentioned very early brake fade even on the street with the steel brakes, which suggests they wouldn't stand up well at all to track duty. Hopefully those reports are overblown or the issues can be fixed with better pads on the steel brakes like the M3.

I don't see Sakhir Orange on the configurator for the F10M. Didn't BMW announce that as a color choice as one of the changes for MY13?

Yes, and it was on the configurator when it was available briefly only by direct link. I'm sure it will come back. Not sure how good it'll look on an F10 though. Looks sweet on an M6, but wouldn't be my top choice even there.

Entering up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, A, B, A, B on the Summary page of the configurator gets you a 30% off voucher redeemable at any dealer.

I got mine, you think that works for a Euro Delivery?

I will bring it with me to the Welt, just in case.

The configurator still doesn't mention anything about a Gas Guzzler tax. This could be a good thing.

Now CC brakes aren't available for selection. How hard is it to make a functional configurator?

I'm getting mixed feeling about them. I went to the dealer and I thought they were a cool function. But they even said I'm 1 out of 10 that use them right. I guess most people just slam the doors. I wonder of this is bad for the motors or even if they are extremely expensive to replace. Someone said the motors alone are $400 so it's probably another $400 in labor cost. TBH it's a really tough decision. For me comfort access is a must have so I may just have to deal with them if it's only offered in the package.
