Urgent: Night Vision with Pedestrian Detection
I just placed my order today. When talking to the SA, the SA told me the Night Vision with Pedestrian Detection option might be visible and effect the look of the car, and the grill might also be different. There is no car at the dealership with that option since it is not very popular here in CA, so there is no way we can confirm this. If it will effect the look of the car I don't want the option and will have to tell my SA ASAP before the car stars production. Anyone with Night Vision can confirm and give more info about this? And even take a picture? Thanks!

Camera in M logo on front grill
As I recall, the IR camera is placed in the M logo on the front grill, and does break up the apparearce of the logo a bit. But it really is not that noticeable. I live in NYC, so that is not a option I need, particularly at that price, but if I lived out in the country where there are plenty of deer, I might have gotten that option. Hope that helps.

I have it on my car and its more a novelty, it's actually distracting. Also it's harder and way more expensive to get flat black kidneys

I had Night Vision on my F10 550. I'm not quite sure why I added it, other than me never being able to order a car without checking all of the option boxes.
As a few have stated it was a novelty. I rarely ever used it when I was driving. I usually only switched it on when I was showing the car off to family and friends. When I ordered the M5 I purposely left this unchecked even though it leaves me with a blank button. In use, you have to look at the iDrive screen to see the outputted image. It won't appear in the HUD. This is distracting. While it was pretty decent at locating pedestrians it wasn't completely accurate and would sometimes alert when I was completely in the clear. Aesthetically, I don't think it detracts too much from the front of the car. I had kidney grilles custom painted, and if you don't want to go that route, iND also sells a set that are basically the same thing.

Doesn't the night vision also add a front camera view to the top-view when you are parking? I would imagine that is quite useful.

A front-facing camera is actually part of the rear view mirror assembly. The IR camera does not add any image to the top view when parking.

It does not. Rumor has it though that BMW may adopt a 4-camera system at some point, with one facing downward. A few other brands have this.

I have the '13 M5 w/night vision. The pedestrian detection warning symbol shows up on the screen but have never seen it on the HUD. Is it supposed to also show up on the HUD or is that a setting that has to be explicitly enabled? I do have pedestrian detection enabled and I see the symbol as I said but only as an overlay on the night vision screen that kicks on only when people in front of me (or deer even).

The only reason I didn't get the Night Vision was because of the look of the front grill...I really did want the option but to me it looks very pronounced...just my opinion.

This guy has more to worry about than his night vision. The Euro plate mounting with a crooked, off center, ugly orange Qatar plate is like poop on a Picasso. |
