Whatever happened to Blaupunkt? Have they been pushed out of the OEM market. I remember they were the number one OEM suppliers for VW group and MB

I'm planning to upgrade my audio as well. After discussing with some people, I think I only going to change my speakers and maybe sub. Planning to upgrade it to BeWith audio (japanese made?). They also do that aftermarket HU that "connect" to the OEM HU. not sure how that really works. maybe anyone knows? the question is if we use that aftermarket HU that connects to the OEM HU, will the oem HU features (bluetooth, ipod) cut off? FYI: The beweith aftermarket HU designed to replace your rear view mirror; so the bewith HU is actually a rear view mirror. complicated to understand.maybe anyone can explain more in depth about this aftermarket HU?

Yep .
It's currently in "surgery" and should be done by end of next week. Amplifier is going to be the 5 channel from Genesis Series III For speakers we're going with Dynaudio Esotar 430 in the door and also replacing the B&O tweeters We'll be using Audiocontrol LC8s until the software for the F10 is available for the Mobridge is available. A few other custom items are part of the build (custom speaker grills, custom LED lightning and illumination for the K40 remote) Subwoofer will either be an Illusion Audio , maybe something else depending on sound testing. It will be in a custom enclosure in the passenger foot well , similar to the picture below from a Porsche installation Hopefully have more detailed updates at the end of next week.

Does the footwell location reduce foot space for the passenger? It must, right?

Not by much as the foot well is pretty deep . "Normal sized" passengers wouldn't notice, even someone at +6ft will still have plenty of leg room

has been released. Played around with it for a day but it makes things much more complicated and I'd have to add yet another amplifiers (need 10 channels) , also would loose some of the features in the B&O such as speaker illumination , center speaker movement etc But hopefully this will be all sorted over time . As for speakers we're going with an Illusion Audio for the subwoofer (http://www.illusionaudio-america.com/carbon/carbon-c10/) and for the amplifier we'll be using a Genesis 5 channel Series III (http://www.genesis-ice.com/global-en...ries-three.php) Turns out the speaker grills are extremely labor intensive as the grills themselves are glued to the door panel and milling out the center part is tricky too as some of the mounting hw has to be modified.

Ok here are some progress pictures from the installation....
Not yet finished and car is still in pieces but it's moving in the right direction. We've settled for amplifier (Genesis Series 3 5-channel), front speakers (Dynaudio Esotar 430 and Tweeters), subwoofer (Illusion Carbon) and will use the Audicontrol LC8 until the Mobridge unit is coming out with software for the F10 M5 with the B&O system The hardest part are the custom speaker grills as each grill has a different shape and some of them have 3D curves. So a lot of custom molds had to be built in order to work on them. As the light for the tweeters/center speaker is actually controlled/supplied by the amplifier (0.5v) we can't use this source for the additional lighting to be installed. So we'll use the interior lights power source (also allows to use the dimming feature) So here we go with pictures from the progress on the speaker grills Dynaudio tweeter installed in the factory tweeter mount Subwoofer box under construction Dynaudio Esotar 430 mid-range speaker at least it is in good company

Stage 1 of the upgrade is completed
The speaker covers have been modified and opened up for better breathing and sound The door speakers have been replaced with Dynaudio components , Dynaudio Esotar 430 for the mid-range, Dynaudio Tweeter in the factory location and a Dynaudio cross over. The grills came out great and I think they actually look better than the OEM ones, they also now have a little bit of a 3D effect to them as the speaker cloth is sticking out a little bit. Just to give you an idea on how much labor is involved in modifying the speaker grills, now even with the molds/templates created it would still take appr 1 full day for each speaker grill to be modified. So not just a simple matter of a few minutes/hours The subwoofer is an Illusion Carbon 10" in the passenger foot well. For the amp the Genesis Series III 5-channel was installed underneath the rear deck. A few items remain for the next stage , such as lightning for the speaker covers, a cover the amp and possible using a Mobridge once software is available for the F10 and the B&O system. The improvement in sound is very noticeable and certainly an upgrade from the "standard B&O system" . Highs are not as harsh and the sound stage is much more natural and defined. The subwoofer adds the missing (tight) low frequencies. Overall there are no distortions anymore at medium/high-levels . It would be interesting to a a A to B comparison with another car and a B&O system. I am very happy with the results and Sound in Motion/Derek have outdone themselves once again. Just a few pictures from the work performed and I'll follow up with more over the coming days Modified Tweeter grills and tweeters (keeping them in the OEM location Modified mid-range grills in the doors Modified grills installed (and compared to OEM grills) Grills being modified (with speaker cloth and new grill support) Custom made mounting ring for mid-range door speaker Dynaudio Esotar 430 installed in the mounting ring

The only items to be done are cosmetic , install the illumination around the tweeters/door speakers and the cover for the amp.
Didn't have time yet to get to it (work/travel gets in the way)

Your update looks great! I also thought the low lows were missing. Hoping to work it out with the EQ once i get my car back.
Thats a name i have not heard in a while! They made great sounding AB amps. Mine blew every so often but they replaced them with out question. Great sound. I have always used Focal's Utopias (long time ago) and poly kev's great on mid and high with a good EQ i had to tone down the highs a good bit for my taste. |

Fantastic install.
The Dynaudio Esotar are 2nd to none....excellent choice. B&O is marketing for non-audiophiles....and I was hoping this $3700 option would be the exception ...but was not surprised. I would put that F10 B&O system up against a Volvo (or VW) Dynaudio system in a blind sound test all day. Your sub speaker placement is the next best choice in a car cabin (only next to installing them in the rear seatbacks facing INTO the cabin....but then you lose the backseat) ....and very few car installers do it. Kudos on a great job.....I'm sure it sounds great. The Dynaudio sub drivers deliver the tightest/fastest bass in the business Unfortunately, those drivers are too deep to install inside the foot well or under the seats or anywhere aside from a box in the trunk. |
