help required: 2012 vs. 2014
hi guys,
I am coming from a 2012 m5, fully loaded, triple black. love the car so much! so much that I finally did it: Iīve placed my order for a new m5, delivery march ī14. fully loaded incl. cp with the 601 wheels. BUT two things: 1. I am not sure if I also should go for the ceramic breaks. I know, they look awesome in nature and I am also planning to floor the m5 on track a few times. but are they really worth it in daily driving? your opinion? 2. Iīve just owned black cars so far. now thought I will change this habit and go for singapur with black inside, but not 100% sure. also siverstone is nice. havenīt seen them in nature and I am a bit nervous to change from black into something different. I know, it is up to my personal taste. but what do you guys think about it? any pics of a singapur or silverstone with ceramics in this forum? could not find so far. THANKS meanwhile for your posts! |

I also had black cars most of my life and I'm ready for a change. SG is an excellent, elegant color. I considered it but in the end ruled it out as too dark and close to black. My top two are Space Gray and Silverstone.
Space Gray is, in my opinion, the most classy and elegant color of them all for the M5. It goes perfectly with the 601M wheels. I like this color because it seems modest and understated. Having said that, SG is a very common BMW color. Silverstone, on the other hand, is a little more flashy but seems like a sweet color that's far more rare. You have to be comfortable with a light blue car at times if you go with Silverstone. It also looks washed out at times and is probably more suitable on smaller cars like the M3. Right now I'm leaning toward Silverstone with black interior. I also am having a hard time deciding between the two 20" wheels. The 343M is the superior wheel. It's lighter and forged. However, the 601M looks better if you're more of the conservative type. Decisions, decisions, decisions... Good luck. |

For what it's worth, I've had more positive comments about Singapore Gray than any black I've ever owned - including Carbon Black. It does pop a bit more in the sun.
Here's a couple shots of mine after being clayed, polished and sealed. Hard to go wrong with any BMW color though, they do such a nice job with their paints. |

My $0.02
The Ceramic brakes seem to not be worth it unless you are taking it to the track often. We're talking almost 10 grand for brakes! I'm not an autocross/track expert by any stretch, but the standard brakes seem pretty stout . . . Having less noticeable brake dust is another awesome benefit of the carbon ceramics but brake dust is not too noticeable on the 601s because they are two tone (dark where the dust accumulates). I really, really wanted to get Singapore grey. My Aston is grey (just posted pics - note: she's a little dirty in these) and that color is magnificent. I wanted a car NOW so I took black, but I'd have been (marginally) happier w/grey. http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=931265 For the interior, I'd go black vs. silverstone because I'd be worried about such a light leather color getting dirty. That said, I've seen threads where silverstone owners have not had any issues keeping it clean. All this said, you really can't go wrong. Don't stress about the decision . . . you're sure to love your car, no matter the combination you get.

save the $10k and get some HRE's or a full exhaust.
I like SG because it changes color depending on the lighting and its not too flashy.
