Same with me too. Guess its the price we pay for driving around an awesome 600hp sedan!!

7k miles on my 2014. no oil used except for the break in service oil change.
drove it hard from day #1. i dont believe in that break in mileage myth. my 2013 had about 15k miles when i traded it and I think I put in about 2 quarts total. also driven hard from day #1.

Hi guys I'll always say that John has tonnes of knowledge about these cars but I have carried out a few experiments and found that the cars use oil on short journeys. On long motorway runs the car does not use oil at all.
From my tests which can be found under 'took the step' in the engine section I found that changing the oil manufacturer has made a difference. Most dealerships seem to be using shell 5w30 I am now using Mobil 1 5w30 and the car is not using oil. Worth a try if you ask me |

I'm at 8300 miles now and I have yet to add one drop . I avg 10.9 mpg so that tells you how hard I drive . It's all in how you break the motor in .

It's all the inconsistency that bothers me about these engines, they should not be burning any oil at all and that is the case for some, but for others these motors burn a ridiculous amount of oil....

"Properly" is in accordance with what BMW recommends. As someone who has raced and built engines, I'm amused at those who profess expertise, but who have done neither. |

Hard break in, 8 k miles on the car and have never added a drop other then the 1200 mile service. I drive 50/50 city and hwy. I do drive her hard and hit the limiter ( or close) on a old abandoned back road on my way to the city regularly.
