Ipod will not connect to car via lightning or BMW cable
When I got the car in March 2015 (April 2014 build) it wouldn't allow me to connect via either cable (itouch running iOS6) but it would connect via Bluetooth and allow audio playback and album art.
I've just had the car updated with the latest software and it still won't allow a connection via USB but its also decided it won't allow Bluetooth connection either. I find this all very frustrating as my previous M3 (2012) and 335d (2014) worked seamlessly inc all the apps, what is going on with the F10??? |

If no one else answers, I will let you know in 2 weeks. Are you able to even make a BT connection with your iTouch? Does your phone connect? Do you get an error or just unsuccessful pairing? Perhaps try an iDrive reboot. I can't answer why it doesn't play with either cable though. Sounds like it is not recognizing that a device is connected. What did your dealer have to say when you got the update?

Same thing has happened with both my M5 and X3. Usually due to a bad cable. Had to go through three new Apple cables before it worked. I believe the factory connection is the culprit though.

The itouch would connect via Bluetooth prior to the software update but has never connected via the apple cable or the BMW one. Now it won't do either, I haven't been back to speak to the dealer about it as usually they don't have a clue, the frustrating thing is none of my other BMWs have had this issue just the F10. I read lots of threads about issues with connectivity on the F10 but rarely hear of issues with the other models. I've check the apple cable and it works fine on my laptop etc... I'll speak to them about it on Monday. Thanks for the replies gents. |

Just a thought, you may have already done this. Delete the BT connection for your iTouch in iDrive and start all over. I don't specifically know the iTouch settings, but double check that there isn't some permission to stream audio over BT. Still can't explain why it doesn't play over the cable, it could be that it is making a BT connection, but not giving permission to stream despite the connection with cable. Deleting the pairing may reset this or consider an iDrive reset/reboot.

Wills2 - did you find root cause of why the iPod does not connect via the cable? I have the same issue w/ an iPod and the BMW cable.
I have an iPod with cable setup that worked just fine for three years in a 2012 M3. I plugged it in to the M5 and the screen says that is does not recognize the connection. Frustrating. I need to take it in to the dealer at some point soon and will have them research. The satellite radio reception is unfortunately not very good either and cuts out all the time while driving through the woods here in the PNW. The satellite radio in the M3 rarely cut out. Streaming BT works just fine from my Windows Phone though.

This would happen on both the m4/m5 if I ran the cord outside of the center box and it was been smushed between the openings it wouldn't read... leave it open so the wire wasn't being crushed or leave iPod in the center console it would work. Just a thought.

Sean, your issue is the same as mine I went from 2012 M3 (via 2014 335 to M5) and it will not connect via the cable, but worked fine on the other two cars.
I have followed bronch's advice and yes it will connect now over Bluetooth, but the apps will not load so it looks like you need a cable connect for apps. I will speak to the dealer this week. |

I had all the same problems coming from an E92 M3 with BMW cable/ipod. The iPod was a 30gig hdd version. I tried new cables....nothing.
I purchased a 16gig iPod and presto! Everything works like a charm. So I think it may be device related. My 2 cents |

Just to update on my situation, the USB port was broken, they replaced it under warranty one of the contacts had bent out meaning the connector couldn't seat properly.
All is well.

Occasionally I would get the device not supported error with the Apple Lightning Cable or would get the Trust this Computer request. Accidentally hit Don't Trust once and had to reset the Location and Trust Settings on the device after forgetting the BT Connection.
Delete the Connected Drive App, do the above reset, and then try reconnecting. If it works, reinstall Connected Drive App and allow the Trust Computer connection. I've been using Carbon Fiber and Silk Lightning Cables from MonCarbone that came in a gift package from BMW last year and haven't had an issue with the device not supported problem since. |
