Oil Consumption

HI GUYS, I bought a f10 m5 about a month ago and I am going through a quart of oil every 700 miles. Is this normal? I have no tune or nothing done to the car at all.

Thanks, Lokie

700 miles seems excessive. Go get an oil chain done if you haven't already and see how things go from there ... Within 7k miles I've had to put about 5 bottles over that time frame

1qt/700 miles is ridiculous . I would've gotten rid of the car if it were 1qt/1000 miles. Trust your gut, if you've never had a car do this before, then dump it, regardless of what bmw says.

They are all different... some use loads and some not so much.

The owners manual covers this.

Price you pay for a 600+hp engine.

All marques 'suffer' the same.

Driving style at run in (first 1200 miles) can effect it.

Driving style now can effect it- i.e lots of rev's = oil consumption

Oil change interval can effect it, ie change your oil more often as the rate of use increases.

If you think you have an issue, your dealer will change your oil (may be at your cost) and set the level then ask you to drive and not top up so they can monitor use and if within 'normal' limits.

My car has ~20K miles on it and has needed a quart every ~1,500-2K miles the last handful of times. But when my car was newer, I think I was adding a quarter every 700-1,200 miles.
