Lowering Spring Question

I am about to buy H&R or Eibach (not KW HAS, not interested in that route)

Anyway, I know the H&R gives a better look, but define "bumpy". Is the ride too harsh with H&R?

More important, the rear clearance is already perfect in my opinion, I don't want the car to look ghetto, I want a subtle drop. Do either of these drop the rear too much?

Any issues with noises post install? The Eibachs on my CTSV made squeaking noise to the day I sold the car.

I had H&R originally on my car and they were fine; there was no squeaking at all but they were a little bumpy and I felt it had a bit of a rake effect going on.

I know you're not considering KW HAS but ride quality is much better IMO and you have full adjustability so you can set ride height in accordance to your taste.

Good luck

Kw has are way more expensive aren't they? Also more difficult to install?

I don't mind the rake. But everyone uses the term bumpy. What do tall mean by that???? Stiff? Rough? Rebound bouncing???

They're a bit more expensive than Springs but well below coils.

In regards to bumpy I would say there's more rebound bouncing for sure and a bit rougher ride. I'm a bit lower than H&R's on my KW HAS yet the ride quality is much better and it's significantly less bouncy.

This is all very subjective so take it for what it's worth; what's not subjective is the fact that the KW HAS are fully adjustable so you can experiment with different settings until you have the right combination of ride height and quality.

Not more difficult just takes a little longer; 4-5 hours versus 2-3 for traditional springs.

Since I want a subtle drop especially in the front, why not oem comp springs?

That's another option especially if you can find a used set.

I have H&R. The ride is indeed more "bumpy" when you're in efficiency mode. As Josec70 said, the rebound is more bouncy. You can lessen that effect by switching to sport or sport+ mode, but then that stiffens up the suspension. Sport+ is too stiff/harsh for me, so I ride around in sport mode all of the time, a little bit less "bumpy" and not too stiff. Basically the spring rates are mismatched to the OEM shocks. Ideally I would do KW V3, but I have no plans to track the m5, so its pointless.

I went with Comp Springs

Dropping KW HAS level money just so I could have the "look" wasn't right for me. I don't drive too aggressive. I like the HR stance. Not really worried about the ride as I come from the land of GTR and C7Z06 etc...softest car I have ever had was a CTSV. I drive my M5 in Sport Plus al the time. However, I worry about the back sitting too low on HR and/or Eibach. I couldn't imagine it being much more if any lower. The front however, I like the stance of the ZCP, so I got some ZCPO Springs coming.

Thanks to all

As stated before the comp springs are def lower than non and will allow you to not have to worry about dealer visits..

i did h&r's and i love em , at times yes a bit bouncy but not really as we have options w edc. coming from the cars you ment'd i hardly doubt that if you'd feel this was too bouncy!

im notta lower'n guy but i did 21's and was apparent that i needed more low lol , now its done and im like hmm want more low lol.. i asked the installer if he even put em in or not thats how much i didnt notice the drop So w the comp springs yes its a drop but not alot.

give it a shot see how you like it , worse case you get h&r's and sell the comps these springs are really cheap in comparo to has.. or v3's

Get KW HAS, you won't regret it, it's great handling, such a waste with H&R when you can get so much better.

I am going to buy a new set. My BMW guy says there is less chance of noise with a brand new set of any choice.

Haha. Word of advice -- get a new BMW guy. He has no idea what he's talking about.

I have had H&R on for over 50K miles. No issues. Yes firmer than stock, but the ride height is perfect on 21" wheels.
