f10 m5
The dealership just diagnosed my M5 with a leaking valve steam after high oil consumption for 2 years. Blue smoke, fouled plug, etc. The car has 48K miles. What else should I have done concurrently with this repair?

Sounds like they will be pulling that cylinder head and either replacing the seals or possibly the whole head. I'm not sure there's really anything else that should be done besides new spark plugs. You will end up with a fresh oil change and coolant change as part of the work if they have to pull the head. Upon reassembly it might be a good idea to have the turbo coolant hoses replaced rather than reused. |

Yes, after some debate. Bmw picked up the cost less $1000.
My concern is whether it could be the rings, heads or anything else that is also leaking. Has this been a reported issue with this vintage of motor? |

Hopefully this resolves your issue. Definitely watch it like a hawk when you get it back and don't let much time pass so you can confirm it's fixed. If it's not, make a big deal out of it and make sure the complaints go into BMW. If the problem remains, you might be able to get them to cover most/all of a new short block. Good luck and good news that you only have to cover $1,000. Regards |
