There's a reason for BMW utilizing an X setup; I believe it's mostly for a more pleasing sound but I've read it does a better job of exhaust scavenging resulting in more low end tq. If you look at most aftermarket exhausts, they retain the X-pipe section, albeit, improve upon it.
