My car (dinan stg1) sometimes feels sluggish of the line too, especially in this heat wave (southeast)...but some of that is just inherent turbo lag too. Most people go w/ SSP clutches. There's another brand as well, Dodson, but for whatever reason SSP is more popular. Some folks upgrade the clutch basket as well but the standard is SSP clutches made to fit the OEM basket. Good thread here; https://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1128469

Honestly stage 1 on our cars isn't rocket science at this point. It's a pretty generic tune from any reputable tuner, they have been doing them for 6-7 years at this point. I spoke to both tuners and Mike was including updating my maps and a few other little things that DME was not. BPM was also a little cheaper. And the third and main factor was sheer convenience, Mike sent me the cable and remoted in and uploaded the tune in my garage. DME is about and hour and a half from me and I was just being lazy lol. If I had a unique setup like pure turbos or something, or wanted to extract every ounce of power out of the car I would have definitely gone to DME to get the tune. I just wanted to wake the car up a bit and not be pushing the limits of stock clutches.

23psi for a Stg1 is STUPID aggressive! that is more boost than Bootmod3 Stage2 so your bpm is actually just more aggressive tune not more reliable

Bootmod3 runs 22psi target so it doesn't peak over or boost spikes like other tunes (dangerous)

can you please specify which BM3 map you are talking about? Bootmod3 isnt a tune. its hardware that facilitates software(maps) loading. and there are lots of different maps. like OTS maps...

I've been researching the market for either a used F 10 M5 or potentially an F80 M3. Yes I know that kind of apples and oranges but I want an M car - I'm 47 married three kids. Our family car is an F15 X5.
I sometimes feel like part of me wants the lighter more youthful M3 but I also would use the car with the family for some Midrange road trips and the M5 would probably be much more practical for that. When you start looking at prices on 2016 models with similar mileage they kind of come in in a similar price point you're either in high 40s to low mid 50s for something clean and nice. I'm curious if you did just a stage one ECU upgrade on an otherwise stock M5.. what kind of power levels would you be at and how would something like that compare to a stock or chipped M3 on the freeway from a roll? How much is a tune in an M5? Similar to M3?

Use OpenFlash or Bootmod3, depending on how you want to tune you could have a local tuner who is reputable nearby but be careful and use one who has recommendations. Cost about $800 for Stage 1 which is more than enough power. Not much will stay with an M5 on a roll when at Stage 1 |

You can choose 1 free map of choice (any stage any octane) If you want more OTS maps it cost $150 for bundle credit. Custom Tunes are separate and require a BM3 License, which you can see in Tuners Directory afterwards

I have an f10 M5 and I have tuned and flashed as well as tuned standalone systems and I have been the guy in the car tuning and logging, keeping everything within parameters.
I’m new to the f10 M5 tuning but learning quickly about a lot of fighting about tunes. I find this odd considering there is an openflash version or a reflasher that exists to tweak your own map if you are within certain limits. The easy button these days sounds pretty good with MHD or BM3 or DME tuning or another brand, I’m not sure exactly the interfaces yet. I know Shiv knows his stuff from other cars I’ve owned and I’d trust his tune over anyone on here, from my experience and not knowing the other guys. Again no cars should blow up from a tune and protections even adding the jb4 just for better controls and fueling options for the top end sound like they protect just as much as they add power. Methanol or E85 lowers the temps dramatically in these cars and takes away the odds of detonation. I’d like to build a map for 21psi that is safe and makes crazy power, intakes/DP/tune Daily driver Map until I get the extra fueling somehow. I’ve read they are not responsive now for OFT and that seams like a great fit for tuners. I’m afraid to get one without any support long term, maybe add jb4 and fueling kit I’ve used MHD and Jb4 and ecutek, and AEM, and LINK and rom raider and others. The BM3 sounds tempting or the evolve if they are similar to MHD and easy. These tunes sound like they should be at 22psi max with 5 degrees of timing at 1500 ramping up to 6 degrees around 3500, 7 degrees and ramping up with boost and fueling to keep air/fuels around 12.2 to 12.7 It’s a shame the stock clutches are only good for 650whp, but not a big deal. Building boost and removing low end timing is important for protecting engines as well as the cylinder walls at low RPM especially of the plugs are not gapped to 0.02, and potentially a colder heat range seams more like a requirement to me the more I read. Colder plugs are a big deal if the cylinder pressures and temperatures are getting too hot from the low timing advance and boost added, perhaps duty cycles need to be increased but I need to log and see the injector duty cyl max since the HPFP seams to have the old N54 problems with the 335i. I’ve seen many posts about adding 50/50 water/methanol and this really makes a lot of sense since again the best option e85 for us in the Midwest is 105octane corn juice. No tunes should be blowing up anything these days. Timing/heat low rpms high boost protections and top end fueling (adding another injector over X psi, assuming 23psi or 24psi?) But I digress...glad to see lots of tuned M5s! What can I tune myself, log, retune, log, retune, log, retune? Only Openflash OFT?

fresh new on the general board. add another one to the death toll everybody needs to keep bumping this thread and keeping on top of the board so people dont fall into the death trap of bootmod3 off the shelf OTS map bullshit https://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1721993 |

From my research, most people have been fine on the OTS maps. It also seems like the S63TU rods aren't inherently weak, but when you detonate at those power/tq levels, it makes sense something could go wrong.
Fuel quality, spark plugs and o2 sensor health play a big part. You should also be data logging regularly. There is no compromise here, you need to keep an eye on the health of these components every so often. Don't want to have to worry about these areas as much? Go with a torque limiting map that also biases for a richer AFR than other tunes. My plan is to go with OpenFlash because of this.

i get paid nothing as i clearly do not endorse anyone but anyone curious can private messaage me about who the man is. furthermore, a loser is someone that buys bootmod3 without researching and doing the math on the sum of blown motors with bm3 i was simply lucky that i was frequenting this board years ago when reports were being posted fresh and i didnt have to dig. just seemed every month Someone would have a catastrophe and bootmod3 was almost always involved but the whole thing felt sketchy because i did look into buying bm3 and it simply didnt seem reputable, especially as I researched off the shelf (OTS) maps and discovered anonymous people could upload tunes for download And exactly as I suspected dudes turn the torque up on the low end and bend rods and shoot pistons to the sky.. it's not rocket science that reputabilty and anonymity don't coincide so no offense to the OP, but he is the loser bc he lost a motor because he downloaded trash software bc nobody told him any better, but ive tried And I picked the tuner i picked because I had a software issue that nobody else could decode or rewrite, nobody even knew where to start and there was only one person that said they were confident they could fix it and the only person that ever said theyd even heard of the issue I had.. and i asked multitudes Can any of you guys at bootmod3 do a live session with me remotely via wifi , hack into my car's dme's thru OBD read my codes and rewrite them? do you guys even have euro spec MDM or euro spec keyless entry codes |
