Is my M5 totaled?
Started to pull out at a green light then stopped as someone ran a red light. Just the front bumper area was side swiped. Nobody was hurt. It's a 2015 M5 with 55k

Doesn't look like it, a side swipe at the tip so only panel and lights there even the oil cooler seems to have escaped! so suspension, wheels and frame look good.

There was fluid on the ground. Not sure what as it was too dark to see. I was amazed on how my wife and I didn't feel anything during the impact. Just saw my car parts flying in slow motion. I turned the car off immediately.

You were right to switch off, though that cooler is in its place it still looks vulnerable there so could be leaking and there's a gearbox oil cooler also so I would tell the repair guys not to start car and leave a warning note on dash.

Nah not totaled, but you'll be in a rental 4-banger for awhile

If it's your first accident see if you can file a diminished value claim too.
They'll try and find any way to wiggle out of that so be ready for a fight. It may not take much to put you over though. I've had a vehicle come back as "not totaled" but when they start finding more things wrong with it they'll reverse it. Also, I leaned that your rental vehicle cost is a factor on their repair estimate and that can also tip it over. Personally, I'd probably just take a check and DIY the repair and use the cash saved to make some personal updates. Looks like you may need some frame work though. But at least you could go for OEM... the insurance company probably won't. |

Already got the insurance check. It's at the repair shop now. Everything in the estimate, is OEM. Just keeping my fingers crossed. I have 4 other vehicles so I'm driving one of them. Rental car isn't an issue. |
