Coding Euro MDM - BMW M5
Hello M5'ers,
I coded Euro MDM and tested it last night, the car feels so much more alive. More power on take off and through the corners, the tail is able to kick out way more than stock so 2-handed driving is required. About MDM (M Dynamic Mode). It was created for M cars, it is essentially between DSC ON (Full Nanny) and DSC OFF (Looking for a death wish). MDM allows you to have more fun on the street and track, without wiping out. However, U.S. spec MDM is way more restrictive compared to Euro specs. BMW assume Americans are bad drivers and lawsuit happy (which they're right). I recommend all M5 owners to code their car with Euro MDM to truly appreciate what an M5 is capable of on the track and street. Don't be an idiot and turn DSC OFF. Even advance drivers on the track drives with Euro MDM. I love hearing how many guys turn their DSC off on the track and to see them wipe out on the first few turns. I saw an M5 hit the wall at COTA last year, $30k worth of damage because he was too cool for MDM. The reason is like sex, every man thinks he's good at racing or driving fast. The truth is, there's only a very tiny percentage of guys out there who knows the car well enough to go full DSC OFF on the track and aggressive street driving. Unless our cars are N/A, then it's ok. Turbo cars power delivery are very unpredictable to an average driver. Boost comes on strong, so it's not as linear as the N/A cars. Based on my track and street experience, just code your car MDM and that's more than enough to keep it safe and fun. You will be very surprise how much more power you'll feel and how much the car allows the tail to kick out during cornering (controlled drifting). Code values below, thanks to ImpetuousRacer . I just added a few more lines compared to his post. DSC Module: C_Laenderkennung = initwert C_Funktion_PostCrash_aktiv_1 = PCIB_deaktiviert C_GMR_Uebersteuer_0_c = F10M5 C_GMR_Uebersteuer_1_2_c = F10M5 C_GMR_Untersteuer_0_c = F10M5 C_GMR_Untersteuer_1_2_c = F10M5 C_GMR_Untersteuerschwelle_c = F10M5 Don't know how to code? Here's how to get started: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1125375 Enjoy... -Jimmy

I've always considered myself a DIY person when it comes to these things, but still contemplating whether to invest the time into coding or just paying to have it done once, as I usually dont change things once I set it the way I like.

Well I finally ordered the cable. After some research into coding, there are quite a lot of options to mess around with, so I thought it'd be worth my time to learn. Thanks JNoSol for the point in the right direction.

So I got my cable and will try a simple folding mirror code in the next couple days.
Question: when activating MDM, on the dash the "MDM" light is on, but also the "DSC off" light is on. I assume for MDM to be active, DSC has to be off? Thanks. I'll do the euro MDM when I know I havent messed up my car. Also, do you know if there is any difference in the US vs EURO DCT settings? |

As for Euro MDM, it's just less intrusive. It allows more wheel spin and drift before it kicks in to correct your car. No harm is done to the car coding it, just bad driving with Euro MDM on will cause accidents. You have been warned. Treat Euro MDM M5 with a lot of respect. When MDM is engaged, both hands better be on the wheels when cornering hard.

I coded Euro MDM and apparently the F10 and M6 GC have the same settings, as do the US and Euro spec cars on the understeer:

Digging this up... Wondering if one wanted to selectively reduce the nannies, one could do all of the above except, say, switching the oversteer values. I ask because I'm mainly interested in getting more freedom in straight-line wheel spin, less in going more sideways in a turn. That said, also not sure if it's Ill advised to mix and match.

Got this done today along with a slew of other things. Haven't gone hard with it to test the overseer, but it definitely allows a bit more wheel slip, which was my main complaint. No more cutting power on WOT 2-3 shifts and much less on 1-2.

I'm not 100%, but my understanding is no to both Carly and Bimmercode. e-sys is really pretty easy to set up and doing the coding itself might seem daunting at first, but it's not hard at all. Just need a windows laptop* and a $20 OBD to ethernet cable.
You can then go over to this thread and post asking shawnsheridan to send you links to the latest software, which also includes instructions on installing said software. For the actual coding, this PDF from the thread the OP links to in his original post gives good step-by-step. Happy to answer any questions if you try to do it. I did a few others like TPMS shows actual tire pressure and temp and turn signals in HUD while I was at it. Also easy, but those carly/bimmercode can do. *preferably not a work-issued one as they tend to block stuff. Mine blocked the javaruntimes it uses.

I've wondered this as well, but no clue. Would be nice to look at a comp pack car's exported DSC NCD/CAFD file. Actually I'd like to see the GHAS file from a comp pack, too, as I wonder if one could code a non-comp diff with the "Tweaked" comp diff settings.

Kind of forgot about this thread sorry. I'm not sure how to export those files but my car is a comp pack and I can definitley tell you the mdm is much less restrictive than my m4. I've had the car stepout on me in rain just testing it out and countersteer was required. I can also burnout 1st and 2nd with mdm on. Definitley can't drift around corners but I haven't tried very hard with mdm on to be fair.
