By fumes do you mean gas? No gas smell..but if thats what u smell its likely a fuel line leak somewhere. doesnt take much since the fuel system is under high pressure. You might also get a gas smell from leaking injectors. Ive had both of those issues too.

My first 13 M5 did it.
My second 13 M5 does it right now. My 750li with the n63 motor does it right now. I've had a ton of things replaced in all three care but the noise still exists. Doing a full straight pipe along with gutted downpipes on the M5 made the ticking barely audible however 😋 |

Same issue here. M5 F10 2012. Everything stock. Ticking noise appears when engine hot/cold above 1500 rpm, on gear or neutral. ticking noise stops after 0.5s when you put off pedal from the gas. It's mostly annoying when you drive at low speed because it's quiet in the cabin, so you can clearly hear it. Any solution?!

Now a little over 100k miles and the problem has not disappeared or gotten any worse. If nothing else, I have become more aware and attuned to this noise.
Has anyone resolved the problem? |

Hi all - I recently bought a used F10 M5 (54k miles). I love the car but it seems to have developed (don't think it was there when I first bought it) this same ticking sound that is described by others above. I thought I was going crazy, so relieved in a sense that others have experienced it as well.
Please, did anybody get to the bottom of this, and manage to identify the exact issue / solution? Many thanks |

For me it is only when I press the gas pedal and it does not matter home much the pedal is pushed, the slighted bit pushed it will start doing it.
No idea what it is still. |

What car you have mate ? I never noticed it in my m6 through the summer. Driving with windows down.
Now getting cold I drive with windows up and it’s so annoying to hear it every time I touch my throttle. Sound like speakers buzzing. |

I have a 14 M5 and I get that cricket sound when I press the gas pedal. It’s definitely not the speakers. It sounds like it’s coming from the HPFP or injectors

It doesn’t sound like it’s coming from under bonnet to me. It does not change with revs or speed. Just on or off. Mine is 2015 M6 |

Another idea, does everyone with the noise have b&o? Another thing I’ll need to test is if it is any louder or quieter depending on efficient, sport and plus. There are some days I don’t hear it. Wondering if it is because I left it in efficient. Cold and rainy season so I don’t drive it as much now but will try these things eventually. |

Some have said when they became fed up of the fake engine noise they just disconnected the connections at the unit in question, it's a synthesised programmed noise that comes out of some speakers, don't know which ones. |
