Oil drain plug washer
Questions guys, I just had oil changed today, and when I walked by to check on the car, I noticed there was a small washer and small o-ring left on the tool cart. I asked the mechanic why weren't they used, he said for F10 M5, they weren't needed, they were for the E60 M5 because it has two drain plugs.
So only the big o-ring and big washer was used on the F10, is this true? |

Searching around the net and looked under the car, I am pretty sure there is only one drain plug. So it's probably true the small washer and o-ring is not needed.

Just curious, anyone have issues with the washer that comes with the Mahle filter to be too big for the oil drain plug?

The small copper washer is the correct one to use for the drain plug. When you buy a change kit with the filter, it comes with all 4 rings. I only use the smaller copper and large rubber. Not sure what the other two are for

Don't go by the oil filter kit confusing o rings, best to buy assorted copper crush washers and choose one that fits snugly around the drain plug thread and don't over-tighten.

The drain plug itself is a real pain to get to, right at the back of the sump and behind, this is on a car not far from two tons so I now take car to dealer who does oil change and filter from the practicality of a ramp.
