BMW Mechanic San Antonio, TX
Looking for a decent bmw mechanic or shop in the SA area. I’d like to, as a precaution, replace the rod bearings. I’m going to bm3 stage 2 soon and just want the piece of mind. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks

You can just get it swapped out for a rebuilt, too. RKAutowerks is in Dallas. That way you get fresh valve seals and rebuilt turbos as well.

Thanks I’ll check them out. I assume a rebuild is not needed yet since the car only has 64k miles. I’ll filter the drained oil this weekend to see how it looks. They supposedly changed it before I brought it home but I don’t trust a non bmw dealership.

Fresh oil and slow warm ups are key to long life. IMO rod bearings don’t need replacement if car was taken care of.
I suggest sending an oil sample to Blackstone Laboratories first to see if you have bearing metal in oil. It also gives you a general idea of the engines health. |
