New M5 (F10) pics -- (from 10/8/09)
Looks like both the regular F10 5-series and the F10 M5 have been busy being tested in Germany. Latest pics as of 10/8/09.

Looks like new M5 may debut alongside rest of the 5er lineup, no waiting. I guess this is because the engine is not new, less M specific parts to develop.

^ I was actually about to ask why the M is testing at the same time as the rest of the line up. I would have expected to see these test mules a bit later I suppose (dunno)!

They began development when the serial version did, nothing to due with less ///M specific parts. Unlike in the past, ///M has initial input for their purposes during serial development. They are not tearing things apart and redesigning, they are designed at the same time.

As an e92 owner who still loves the way his car looks after 3 years, the F10 looks very promising. BMW turned a corner (ran away screaming?) from the bad old days of Bangle-butts and overdone flame surfacing with the e92, and now the other models will benefit from this return to truly nice BMW design.
Despite what many have said, the current 5, 6, and last generation 7 never grew on me no matter how hard I tried to love them. I really don't think that it should be necessary to "get used" to anything on a car, whether it's the looks, stupid earlier iDrive versions, etc. I look at BMWs, especially the 5's before the current generation, and think that they still look great after all these years. The F10 will be like that, I believe. |

I really don't care how many times BMW have stated that single piston brakes are enough in an M car, but the wimpy rear calipers in this mule got to be gone by production date. They simply cheapens the look of the car, especially if we are talking about $85,000+ before options
BMW did great with the new front 4-piston calipers in the X5/X6 M but it looks like it is very difficult for them to simply dump those 1-pistons completely... |
