FiOS Quantum Gigabit Internet service; plus FiOS Quantum TV service with 8-tuner DVR for around $220/month here. I'm a home cinema pro so TV service isn't where I look to save money.

I am looking for the best device/option to record Live TV and/or off of a Firestick and or Android device.

I'm ready to be done with DirecTV after 2 decades.

Not sure I am ready to cut the cord but I share your frustration with DTV. Their equipment locks up, loses connection with the video bridge and turns smart TV's on when you don't want them to. I looked at my bill last month and it was $225. I just have not found much that would work well for 8 televisions.

EXACTLY! I too use the Whole Home Genie setup with 6 TVs. I was told this was the max?

But yeah... I've just about had enough. But I need a reliable recording of TV first....

Not sure why anyone would want or need to record from a streaming source, but TiVo can record OTA if you have reception where you live.

If you're an Amazon Prime member, and use any of their Fire TV devices, there's the Fire TV Recast.

This channel selector makes it easier:
https://www.suppose.tv/tv

Pick the stuff you like to watch and leave out the stuff you don't...if you end up finding a package, or combination of packages, that will end up saving you money/frustration, great! If not, at least you'll reassure yourself that it isn't time yet.

Really?

How about when we're not at home??? I absolutely must have a way to record Live TV because everything, particularly local programming are not streamed.

My comment is questioning why anyone would need to record from a streaming source. I wasn't envisioning streaming live TV, I was questioning why anyone would record a source available anytime via streaming. I then acknowledged that people might want to record live TV; for that I suggested going OTA with a TiVo.

Cut the cord a couple of years ago. Use a Roku box since the Apple Tv blew up a couple of months ago. Either one works fine, Netflix and Amazon Prime we pay for.

To me an OTA HD antenna is an essential part of cutting the cord... That is assuming you're in an area that provides reception. I'm surprised not one person has mentioned it yet. 🤷🏻*♂️

Agreed. I have a giant powered one mounted in my attic as a backup.

Talking

for the longest time, i kept renewing my triple play offer which included 200mbps, phone, and basic tv. with the modem and 3 box sets, my cost was $180/month.

stuck at home and researching alternatives, i canceled my package today and now paying 300mbps for $60/ month all inclusive.

after reviewing the channel lineup from various providers like sling, hulu, etc i ultimately settled on youtube tv as they offered most of the channels i watch costing me $50/month.

saving $70/month moving forward or $840/year i feel relieved; should have done this sooner .

i found it ridiculous i was paying $40/month for 'rent' fee for the modem and 3 boxes when the modem i bought only cost $100. i mean even paying the rent fee for 5 years is $2,400, just straight up robbery

for anyone planning on cutting the cord, keep an eye out on the modem you buy. there is a major flaw with modems using the intel puma chips so better to go with broadcom. googling will net you many results. this is a hardware flaw from intel similar to their desktop chip issues so best to avoid.

the other crazy thing i found during my research is these new 'all in one' boxes that have modem, tv, and wireless router built in being offered at discounted bundled price is also a scam. from a business perspective smart strategy, but on the consumer end the box creates a secondary public wifi increasing the company's hot spot coverage. keep in mind this is using your bandwidth let alone having a secondary network open to the public.

Good job. Internet only here, no TV, no streaming subscription. Purchased my own modem. No gaming. It's just about as bare bones as can be while having a standard amount of bandwidth.

I looked at going all cellular/wireless but AT&T didn't seem like a good deal given the increase in data consumption if eliminating cable entirely.

Just cut the cord as well. We recently got fiber in our area so I get 1 gig internet for $80 a month and also went with youtube tv which has everything we watch including local channels. Saving $100 a month...

Cord cutters should add an over-the-air (OTA) DTV antenna if they can get reception. The antennas aren't very expensive and provide great picture quality... Plus you get live local programming. I'm constantly amazed by how many cord-cutters never even consider adding an OTA DTV antenna.

FCC provides a reception map tool: https://www.fcc.gov/media/engineering/dtvmaps

I own my own router and modem to escape those BS fees, but we moved into a new house, and cut the cord. High Speed Internet runs me about $60/mo (tax/fee incl.).

We thought about going the Youtube TV route for $49.99, from a buddy's recommendation, but haven't done it, as we haven't found a need.

God...I feel so backwards here. We don't have internet at home. I have a "Hot Spot" that my work provides. So if we don't use our phones, I can run my tablet or PC off of that.

And we have the basic Dish Package that I locked in for at like $39.95 a month for 3 years with no increase in price.

But when not at work...I like to be outside as much as I can. And I hate anything to do with a screen as I am on one for most of the day!

Internet + YouTube TV for us. We use Roku to access YTTV and a few other channels we like (Curiosity Stream, HBO+, Amazon Prime, Netflix, Disney+). We didn't cut the cord based on cost, we cut it to gain flexibility. If I want a TV on the back porch, all I need is a plug and a Roku stick or Roku TV. That is very appealing for us. We have moved 4 times in a year and not having to get cable or DTV hooked up is great. If I don't have hardwire ISP, I just use my hotspot and we are good to go.
