Enjoy it.

FYI: you can ask the dealer to purchase and install the clear side makers to replace the stock yellow ones

I am going to test drive a 991S on Wednesday. I have really high expectations. Also, Agate Grey looks super. Congrats Grayblack, the car suits your name!

I'm thinking about to test drive one too. Which dealer? McKenna? Rusnak?

Love the color that was my first choice before i changed and went with Aqua blue. Very nice. Love the 991 because you can leave it stock, and not touch a thing.

Ummmm why would we do such a thing we all drive F10's, and we like to discuss cars in general. That would be like us telling you to go to the another board, and that wouldn't be cool. Manufactures all need competition to give us the buyer options. Looks like this board likes M's, and 991's what's wrong with that.

It's a shame to see this comment. Forums aren't just about praising our cars. They are about discussing them, good or bad. This thread is extremely popular for one reason, and it isn't solely about Porsche praise. It is about discontent with the weight and sporty feel of the M5 that has been nagging at many of us. Remember, we ARE M car owners. Most of us have owned several generations of M cars and some of us currently own more than one, we have witnessed the progression (perhaps regression) of the M5 from its sporty roots to a more refined luxury car. This thread is EXACTLY what a healthy discussion regarding our beloved BMW M cars is and should be about. It is indicative of a healthy mix of enthusiast members who are part of a strong board and community. We are true brand enthusiasts. THIS is how change happens. When brand loyalty starts waning due to a common sentiment, the brand responds. I personally am hoping that BMW appropriately adjusts. However, the newly found love of the Porsche that is rapidly converting many board members and M drivers and the reconnection with sporty driving that many of us have felt we have lost with the current M5 might prove to be too strong to allow us to continue our BMW love affair. Look how many responses it has generated in such a short time. And look at how many have slipped to the dark side.

With that being said, I've been looking to replace the M5 for quite some time, but never really came across anything worth it. Thanks to this thread I'm going to revisit the idea of a 991 VERY soon and most likely pick one up and then trade it in for the GT3 next summer/fall when there is available allocation.

Just one question. What's the best driver's car after a 911 before I make the plunge?
THIS is a great comment. I am very glad that this discussion has proven to be thought provoking.

Congrats! That color is AWESOME! It is a perfect mix of class and sport! I came very close to buying a very similar Agate Grey myself but I had gotten myself all wrapped up in the Aero Kit and I was done-lol! LOVE your ride! This will be the best commute of your life!

Easier said than done--- there is no Turbo in the 991 yet. The pricing will be about 40k more too. The performance and driving impact on the 991 has closed the gap so much with less hp/tq. Yes it can be underwhelming if you dont drive it hard and in the right set up, especially compared to the mash and go characteristics of the M5/AMG. Its not for everyone but almost every true car enthusiast Ive met loves the car and the advancements.

See below.. This forum has always allowed for cross dialogue even with non directly related competititors. Sure there is a lot of discussion here but its informative and provides perspective. This thread has way more action than any thread at 6Speed in the 991 forum.. that says alot.

After? Great question- its all subjective so im sure there are many a car that are better than a 991 depending on a users needs/wants. Id argue that the new dual clutch Audi R8 V8 (keeping in price range) is quite impressive as well.

This mass exodus to Porsche is crazy. Apparently they nailed the 991 looks, because it's drawing a new (and younger) crowd. Myself included

Other great drivers cars (arguably even better than 911)
- Boxster
- Cayman
- Lotus Exige

I took my 2012 Boxster Spyder to the track yesterday and it blew my mind. I got point bys from a couple of GT3RS's out there (obviously not as powerful, but very nimble). I will never ever take the M5 on track again. After experiencing mid-engine 2800lbs, what's the point

Not sure why a bunch of grown up men are applauding one another on what a great choice they have made for choosing the 911 over the M5. If people are merely talking about what a great car the 911 is, I can accept that though not necessarily agreeing. To say it's a great choice over the F10 M5 is ludicrous. Why anyone even speak of these 2 cars in the same breath is incomprehensible. Totally 2 different cars for entirely different purposes. It's like me going over to 6speed or Rennlist and post about how happy I am for getting the F10 M5 over the 911 because it ferries my entire family of 4 adults along with their golf bags for a weekend of golfing getaway and then some.

I have driven the 991 C2S as a potential replacement for my E92 M3, but was less than impressed with it. Before anyone says I am high on M kool-aid, I am in the midst of finalizing an order for the new 991 GT3. I am planning to parallel import a unit from UK as a replacement for my M3. I would under no circumstances, be comparing it with my M5 in the context of choosing one over the other. I would also like to point out that it's probably not a very sensitive thing to do going on and on about 911s in an M5 forum especially if u have just jumped ship. Congrats on your new ride and enjoy it in good health, but remember, u prob felt the same way when u first got your M5...

Nice Ride! Bet it drives on rails. We're not leaving M, just another option as over time the weight is a tad much. It's the same weight as the 2001 740, but I still love the power.

Because it makes me want a friggin' 991 also! I'd just as soon rather not have that thought recurring in my head every time I come to this forum - hell I haven't even received my '14 M5 yet and I'm already thinking of a stablemate. Except I only have a 2 car garage and the wife needs one of the slots, so I am also thinking to upsize the house. My wallet hurts!

I opened up the iPhone app to read the board after several beers - football season is back!!! - and was again staring at this damn thread - I love the 991s and don't need to keep thinking about it!

As you can see, my comment was with tongue firmly in cheek. Keep the pix coming - they're beautiful.

If YOU would read we love our M5's and some of us have both and some. It's a car not a cult so chill out! This discussion has been going on for a long time, and you can choose not to read it minus your negativity it's been positive. It's a good topic because some board members like to track their M5's, and some us bought the car sight unseen. Overall not one person has made a negative comment about the M5 so your point is what?
