So the big question is will the engine be the exact same output as the X5/X6 ///M or will it be tweaked to assert itself as BMW's flagship?
Im so happy that it has the DCT but whats the final word on weight? Last time i checked DCT's weigh alot, and ones beefed up to handle locomotive like torque usually weigh so much. I think the difference between a PDK equipped 911 Turbo and 6 speed is somewhere around 50lbs! Whats the weight comparison between the 4.4 TT V8 versus the S85 V10? If they could keep the curb weight under 4200lbs I would be estatic! |

Boy, I hope we old fashioned Americans get a 6-speed manual!

Probably give it the same 555hp engine and make it lighter, just what their doing with the M5.

Doesnt the X5/6 at 5000lbs get 0-100km in around 4.3 sec? This car will be at least 1000lbs less than that so it should, theoretically, be in the 3's.

Actually, about 1,250 lbs less by my calculations, and far less brick-shaped. Could break the 4 sec barrier...

I'm not saying that some here will leave and switch brands because of M-Division decision to switch to FI but then those guys are no more loyal to the brand than myself the claimed anti-BMW guy. If nothing else you will be able to pick up an E9? M3 cheap with all these disillusioned owner and finally get the chance to own the car of your dreams. Frankly BMW are doing you a favour. |

And yes Porsche is the ray of light for those of us who like our powertrain layouts to remain pretty much the same for 40+ years....AND STILL KICK ASS! My ///M Coupe is going into my personal museum as the last true back to the basics ///M car. 911 GT3 here I come for the next track slut.... But a new ///M5 with 600bhp, ahh hell im going to contradict myself but it sounds damn fun! |

I love reading all this speculation... especially the part about the DCT being beefed up to handle the torque- did anyone even look at what the DCT can handle in its "beefed" up state? Even the PDK can't handle that torque...
This car will be a monster but some of this stuff...

I know it's a LONG, LONG, LONG way away, but I truly hope the "CSL" version isn't some insane price like the orange version of the M3...
Anyway, sounds like it'll be awesome. Should worry Panamera's some... |

The one thing that is still bugging me is the 8 gears for the DCT (if that is what it will actually get). I mean there is nothing wrong with the 7 gears on the DCT that the M3 gets and surely it would have been easier to beef up the existing box instead of adapting a newer more complicated version, especially when they have the ZF auto which already has the right number of gears, can already cope with the torque and works perfectly with turbo engines.
The other thing about this info is that I did hear that KERS may well have been dropped or at the very least only be offered as an option. |

If anything, the newer and torquier engine would need _fewer_ gears than 7 surely? It's good that they're introducing quite a few new techs to a brand new platform... I just hope it's not a case of one too many.... |
