It's surprising they didn't upgrade the M5 Competition Package. The 2016 M6 competition Package is now 600hp, but the 2016 M5 Competition Package is stuck at 575hp.

If M5 had a 600hp Comp Pkg in the first place I would have bought it. But +15hp on an underrated 560hp is basically for chumps. I mean who's going to notice a 2.6% horsepower increase!

At least with the 2010 M5, there was actually some upgrades in the car that were not present in the previous model years. This is very lame of BMW. Very disappointed.
Fundamentally there is pretty much no difference between a 2014 and a 2016 either. This is why I broke my pattern of annual upgrades. If they want me to buy new cars like I buy new iPhones, they need to offer something.

In the 2015 you get a little indicator light in the instrument cluster that lets you know that the heated steering wheel is on. That alone is worth the upgrade.

But yeah 2016 M5 is very disappointing followed by the speculation that BMW M will use another Twin Turbo V8 in the next generation M5. I'm even more disappointed by that.

They didnt because then there'd be no difference between a "normal" M5 w/ Comp package and the 30 Jahre M5.

Well I don't think this is the main reason. BMW will not limit their sales because of 300 cars already built... There should be another reason for this marketing/sales decision... I think it's because of the end of F10's life cycle.
On the other hand, Fxx M6 has still 1-2 more years and with lower weight (Compare to M5) and new tuned engine can be the most powerful and fastest BMW for time being to compete with other automakers.
As a side note, the CP on M6 Coupe has better performance compare to M5 due to lower center of gravity, shorter wheelbase and wider track beside the less weight.

Yes that makes sense as well!

Yeah, it was very disappointing the 2016 M5 didn't get the 600HP CP package. I was hoping it would. And as we get closer to the debut of G30 5 series, now I am on the fence whether to order the 2016 M5 or wait two more years for the new M5.

I live in Taiwan which means full optioned M5 will cost me close to 300k, but second hand M5 like 2012 or 2013 goes around for 120k, so that means if I want to upgrade to G30 M5 when it comes out, I will have to take a huge hit. My wife is having none of that, she said if I buy the F10 M5, I will have to drive it at least 6 years.

P.S. With BMW so profit oriented, I maintain it's likely the G30 M5 is just a 600HP V8 twin turbo with new chassis. I doubt it will have a brand new engine.

Yeah everything you guys are saying are the same concerns I am having with the M5. If it's just a little better no huge improvements it's going to be a huge pain. Also first gen new body etc may not be worth it either.

Really no new engine for the G chassis? That would be a first for M5, right?
