If you can get good pricing on new - go for it. Ebay is an alternate source that I've seen these parts on...

Just curious...all in, how much was this?
PM me your numbers if there's secrecy. I've been debating this for a while now. Is there any way to get the kit for less than $9k? |

Great writeup OP. I've done this upgrade as well a few years ago swapping my 2013 M6 steel rotors to a 2014 M5 carbon ceramics with all parts listed as well as coding. We didn't do the iDrive controller at all and I'm not sure why it would be necessary. I also have the older iDrive as my m6 was a late 2012 production build. Install and coding done by BMW master tech. No issues with the retro fit and has the same brake feel as my 14 M5 with CCB's.

Yep, it wasn't. I did an upgrade of the Idrive controller a year prior so it's not required at all for the CCB swap. Oddly, when the dealer tried to do the coding for CCBs - for some reason it was receiving an error message due to the different idrive controller. Everyone was puzzled but eventually they figured it out...

Great write-up beast. Did the Northlake store do the swap for you or the Independence store? Also, would you please share who was your SA? Sounds like you are very happy with that service department.
What would the service life be for CCB in normal driving compared to standard M brake system? |

The Independence shop took care of me - my normal SA is Chris Deyton however during the install, Chris was on vacation so Cody Campbell assisted. I've found if I treat them well, they do the same and have had good experiences there. As far as wear - I believe in the sales brochure mentions the CCB lasts 3 to 4 times longer than regular steel brakes under normal driving conditions. Generally, most should not have replace the brakes during their ownership. All bets are off if you track the car regularly. hope that helps |

Quick question: Do you need to perform coding for the new climate control unit to work? I purchased a used unit with ceramic controls now and hope that I can simply swap them. Did you have to code anything?

Nope - i simply swapped the idrive controls out - no coding. I have no idea why it came up in the CCB swap a year later. very odd.

Hi all
Interesting post I'm actually looking to do the opposite .. I own a M5 f90 Competition and I had a ceramic disc fail at 28k miles . It appears that no one knows as to why this has failed which makes me think that there is a high risk of all the others (thinking they are from same batch) will fail as well .. BMW UK doesn't want to touch the car as it has been flashed as I had a Remus exhaust installed and I had to flash the car to stop regen as my car comes with PPF/OPF ... Now I'm considering "downgrading" and I was wondering if any coding is required to the esp/abs unit ... If anyone knows what mods do I need besides the discs and pads also the calipers and hoses .. please advise. |

Really want to thank OP for this detailed and informative post. I've been on the fence about the CCB upgrade for at least three years. Have had my F10 since ED in 2013 and they didn't offer CCB back then. Finally pulled the trigger and had them installed yesterday and super happy I did. Washed the last traces of steel brake dust off this AM and looking forward to bedding and enjoying them.

My wife and I love the CCB's on my M6 and the time saved cleaning wheels is well worth the price of admission. Congrats.
