They're sold now and onto the next owner (I'm parting out my mods) but I wouldn't say they were more harsh than stock. My experience was that they tightened up the steering and gave me much more confidence at high speeds.

I had a similar issue on my M6 which ended up being the sway bar end link on the front passenger side. If you have a floor jack you can do a quick visual inspection at home. My son and I did the repair in our humble garage at home and replaced the other 3 while we were under the car.

45k miles.Thrust arms.

I don't have the new ones yet to compare but I think my ball joints are shot, I have read they are supposed to be stiff. I figured the bushings would be bad. Makes me wonder if I should change the other set of lower control arms as well.

Is this suggesting the front lower control arms or rear control lower arms, or both?

I'm in need of this as my suspension is quite sloppy.

They are the ones that take the most pounding at the front, if you have bad roads and a lot of humps there they do eventually wear.
In the yearly test/examination over here at the BMW dealer I go to, there is a shake machine connected to front and then rear suspension which can tell if any suspension control arms are questionable taking the guess work out of it, mine were fine at 44k.

Do all dealers have this testing equipment?

Also is it only the lower control arms, or the uppers as well?

Best speak with your service centre and ask if they have it.
My chosen BMW place over here have it, quite intriguing actually while I was viewing it and glad as the last thing I want is a worn control arm insert putting a stain on the handling, the ball joints on them can wear too.
