I live in NYC and i had my M5 for 3 years and just picked up an M6 Gran Coupe. My Wife has an X6 and i also have a 2004 Honda Pilot for snow duties and everyday driving. Theres no comparison tho, get the M5 and spend 2-5k on a reliable daily like a honda.

I didn't like mine and sold it after 2 years. Now have a '16 550xi with Dinan S2 goodies. It's not a M5, but it it's a lot better overall for 8 months of great weather and 4 months of delta sierra in Montana.
When the next M5 comes out with AWD I'll look at trading the 550, but so far I'm pleased with the tuned 550.

I had a 14 550i Msport with dedicated snow tires and the car drove around in a big snow storm just fine. I'd wager to say that a RWD M5 with snow tires will outperform a 550xi with stock all season crap tires in most situations. Go with the M5 unless you really have to take the BMW out even if there's 2 feet of snow on the ground.
