POST-RACE QUOTES FROM SPA
Benoît Tréluyer – Audi Sport Team Joest “When they told me that I was going to keep the tyres for a third stint at the end, I thought, oh no! But this was our chance to win and I was still able to take risks in traffic and push like hell. We did it and I am very happy for the team because we had a really strong weekend and it feels great to win in this fashion.” Mark Webber – Porsche Team “We had too many own goals today. We don’t want to be gifted results if we aren’t performing at the highest level. I’m surprised that we were able to get back as well as we did – our car speed was good and fortunately the races are long enough that you can make it back.” Mike Conway – Toyota GAZOO Racing “We did the best job we could and fifth was the maximum we could do. It’s a few more points for us but the next race is Le Mans, which is the big one. We just have to get our heads down and keep working away to prepare the most competitive package we can for Le Mans.” Simon Dolan – JOTA Sport “Harry and Mitch did a great job – it was just a matter of me managing the gap, saving the tyres and handing it back to them. This is a vital massive confidence boost for the team going into Le Mans – sometimes people consider the ELMS a poor relation but we’ve come into WEC again and we’ve smashed them!” Pipo Derani – G-Drive Racing "It was a tough race, compared to the winners, who were really at a level above us on this track, but we are now leaders, adding the first position of the points, as the JOTA not score in the FIA WEC. And then we go to Le Mans in the championship lead, which is really cool. Alex MacDowell – #99 Aston Martin Racing “It was a great effort by the team today and we all raised our game from Silverstone. It feels excellent to take my first World Endurance Championship victory. It wasn’t easy in my stint as there was big pressure from the Ferrari and we struggled a bit with the tyres in the later stages. But in the end we made it and finally we can call ourselves winners.” Mathias Lauda - #98 Aston Martin Racing “Two wins from two starts is pretty good really considering the competition was really strong this weekend. It was tough in my stint because at first I had a big lead but it is always hard mentally because you are always telling yourself to keep a rhythm and not make a mistake when you are in the lead. We didn’t make any big mistakes and we came away with another class win so naturally we are super happy.” |

ENTRY LIST FOR LE MANS 24 HOURS TEST DAY
May 26 2015 by World Endurance Championship staff On Sunday 31 May the 56 entries taking part in the 83rd edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours will gather in La Sarthe for the official pre-event test, with the 34 World Endurance Championship full season entries forming over 50% of the eligible cars. They will be joined by some of the reserve entries and two LMP3 Ginetta-Nissans from the European Le Mans Series, making a total of 64 cars on track. In LMP1, 11 of the 14 cars are WEC entries and it will be the first opportunity to see the new AER-powered Rebellion R-One and the trio of Nissan GT-R LM NISMOs on track. As they did at Spa-Francorchamps earlier this month, Porsche and Audi will each be fielding a third entry. The Porsche 919 hybrids will also be switching to the red, black and white Le Mans liveries that were unveiled at The Prologue in March. Reigning World Champion Toyota will be running two cars as the Japanese team bids to win its first Le Mans 24 Hours to add to the 2014 world titles. The impressive 21-car LMP2 grid includes all 9 WEC full season entries including current Championship leader G-Drive Racing. It is joined by 10 European Le Mans Series competitors, including the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps race winner and reigning LMP2 Le Mans 24 Hour champion, JOTA Sport. With just 9 entries in total the LMGTE Pro is numerically the smallest category at this year’s race but what the class lacks in quantity it certainly makes up for it with quality. The 7 WEC works entries from Aston Martin, Ferrari and Porsche will face the challenge of the works Corvettes from the Tudor United SportsCar Championship. This four-way battle for the win at Le Mans will mean the class is one of the ones to watch during the 2015 race. The 18-strong LMGTE Am grid will feature all 7 WEC entries and they will be joining by a similar number of ELMS competitors, with the remaining 4 cars coming from the TUSC and Asian Le Mans Series. The no98 Aston Martin Vantage of Paul Dalla Lana, Mathias Lauda and Pedro Lamy has had the perfect start to 2015 – scoring 52 points in the first two races after taking pole position and victory at Silverstone and Spa. All eyes will be watching to see if the 100% record can be maintained at Le Mans. At 16h00 on Saturday 30 May the 56 cars taking part in the 24 Heures Le Mans on the 13/14 June will form up on the grid for the traditional grid photograph, and on Sunday the first 4-hour test session will begin at 09h00 followed at 14h00 by the second session. |

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE LE MANS TEST DAY AND WHO IS THERE?
May 29 2015 by WEC Staff The green flag is being waved for the world's biggest sports car race, and the 56 entries who will be racing for glory on 13/14th June take to the track this weekend for the Le Mans 24 Hours official test day. But what happens and who can take part? As a large part of the 13.62km track is made up of public roads, this is a rare opportunity for everyone to test cars, drivers and systems ahead of the big event in two weeks. Additionally, certain other teams who will not take part in the race are allowed to test to learn this unique layout for possible future participation. This is why there will be 64 cars on track on Sunday, 31st May. It also allows the teams to set up home inside the circuit without having to move again before the blue riband event in the World Endurance Championship, the third round of the 2015 season. Newcomers learn the ropes The test day is only obligatory for new cars, with one model minimum per newcomer, plus teams and drivers who have never raced in the Le Mans 24 Hours - but everyone choses to attend. In addition, drivers who have never taken part in the race, or who have not been on the list of confirmed drivers since 2010, must cover at least 10 laps minimum during Sunday's track sessions. This is in addition to the simulator training they have had to do prior to the test day. The ACO reserves the right to refuse the entry of a driver if his/her performances or skills are not up to the mark. Which cars will be there? The cars allowed to take part are:
What happens and when? The public roads are closed to traffic very early on Sunday morning 31st May and will re-open around 19h30. Scrutineering and administrative checks will take place on Friday 29th May (09h30-18h00) and Saturday 30th May (08h30-15h00) inside the circuit. Free practice will be held on Sunday 31st May between 09h00-13h00 and 14h00-18h00. The test day is open to the public. Spectators who wish to attend, but who don’t have general enclosure tickets for the Le Mans 24 Hours, can buy their test day ticket, which costs 20 euros (free for youngsters born after 1st June 1999) from the ticket booths at the circuit. Note that it is possible to access the circuit on Friday 29th May. Spectators can walk down the pit lane and see the teams making their preparations for Sunday. |
