I've heard friends talk like this as well. What exactly do you hate about Vettel? He's a nice young kid working with a great team and achieving great results. He's also a fierce competitor - if he's capable of taking first place from his teammate, he does it. At the end of the day, he's a racing driver. You don't see him ramming competitors off the road or punching people in the paddock, so really, what is it that you hate about Vettel?
Exactly. Well said.

IMO He lacks the overall moodiness of other drivers, and acts about as modest as a pro-driver can. He's overcome the nay-sayers "he can't pass" & "it's only his car" BS to sit on top for the 4th time. He could very well have an Alonso-esque attitude, but he doesn't. Refreshing actually

Car, driver, etc., what is always interesting/fun is solid and tight competition. Someone (Vettel) walking away by 10+ seconds is boring. Fighting it out lap to lap, corner to corner, pit to pit, is exciting and fun.

"Liking" or not liking Vettel may have become somewhat the focus by default without some real contenders. In my case, I'd probably be less focused on the the "perceived" person if the competition were better, and I'd view him in the light of competition. I might have a different view if this were the case.

Anyone else think a more competitive field would be a bad idea?

Just the other day this kid was in a Toro Rosso at Indy. 6 years later: 4 titles! Cool.

Don't count on it, at least not anytime soon. I don't think turbo V6s interest BMW in the least, considering they've never produced a V6 engine. It wouldn't surprise me to see BMW jump back in as an engine manufacturer only when F1 goes to turbo 4 cylinders (that's the next logical step in terms of engine regs). That probably won't be until year 2020.

I don't mind Vettel either. As far as I know, he still doesn't have a manager and negotiates all of his Red Bull contracts by himself. If that's still true, that's commendable.

I'm not counting on it at all but the FI technology that could emerge from F1 could be interresting for any type of engine V6, I6, I4, I3, V8 etc. And if Mercedes and Renault/Nissan for example come up with trick technology and patents it BMW might be at disadvantage by not participating and getting the extreme testing possibilities that racing in F1 provides.

Montoya?! Wha? Dude is and was a spare. Mika gave Schumi fits, but I doubt Schumi even remembers JPM.

But Vettel has been fun, I can't see hating him either, he actually has effusive personality for a German.

True but that was one race and that it was wet can just as well take away from the achievement to win in an inferior car as help raise his driver skills as a wet weather deamon. In one race you can be lucky with pace cars and timing of tire selection on a drying track. Vettel has already competed in a lot of F1 races and he is not seen as being nearly as good in the wet as Senna and Schumi. Hopefully we will get more wet races next season so we can get a fresher view of his skills. I love to watch F1 when it rains.

We're watching history in the making, Vettel has all the cards stacked to surpass Schumi, time will tell. All the Vettel haters can hate on him and his finger but aslong as he's winning just realize that finger will be in your face.

Vettel is definitely a special driver. I don't find it boring at all, it pisses me off because I am a life long Ferrari tifosi. That being said, he is simply that good. I remember saying the same about Schumacher and he will go down as a legend. I think we are seeing legend type shit from this 26 year old

Huh? Did you even watch the race? It was absolutely drenching wet all weekend and Seb won it in a midfield car at best. It remains Toro Rosso's only win to this date. He did not get lucky in that race. He put it on pole and then drove perfectly to win in a car that had absolutely no chance in dry conditions.

Anyway, I find Vettel's achievements pretty damn amazing. Even in races he did not win, he almost always delivered the best possible results from what he had. And he makes the passes whenever he needs to do so. I think we are witnessing one of the all-time greats here.

Time will prove Vettel is a fantastic driver and will become a legend in years time.
Some would kept arguing because of the car. But I'd say just because memories are still fresh and some mentality refuse to admit he might be something special.

I'm no fan of Vettel and actually quite bored with the RBR+Newey+Vettel formula for Victory. But it is an amazing achievement for both the team and Seb.

Hats off to him, and urge others to work harder and smarter to challenge RBR and Vettel.

I'm looking forward to the re-union of Honda-McLaren. I wish it was for next season already but maybe better with 2015 considering that at that time Alonso might have his ego bruised by Kimi and want to replace Perez. It should also hopefully kick Button back into better shape if he gets more competition. Better with Kimi, Alonso, Hamilton and Vettel spread across the top contendors.

Next year will hopefully be exciting enough with the new engine type. Who knows, it might shuffle things around quite a bit.

Vettel is no doubt very fast and already has a record to cement him as a legend. Of some unknown to me reasons I just find it hard to love him as a driver. I wasn't really a huge Schumi fan either though even if I have a lot of respect for what he did.

I have high hopes for Kimi next year. It'll be very interesting to see how Ferrari treats Alonso if Kimi wins the first two races right out of the box. Would they focus their efforts around Kimi?
