The BMW is classier looking, but the Caddy does not look tacky in real life. It looks more aggressive, but it looks good (except for that rear proportioning of the 3/4 view, that sail panel and rear fender, ugh).
Overall, this car should do very well. Driven a CTS V-Sport and it was a very good ride, much more composed than a 550 MSport. The 3.6 TT engine is pretty rough, though, and has a low redline (6k RPM IIRC). This car should be a beast. |

Impressive spec sheet from the Caddy
I still prefer the M5 in terms of looks though. Can't wait to read/watch the first comparo . |

I think the v looks great except that disgusting rear spoiler. the m is classy but I have always felt it's way too conservative in its exterior design.

I quiet like the CTS-V front end and hood design. I would even take that over M5 front end look that is getting a bit dated and boring. The back end of M5 looks better design wise. So draw looks wise. The interior wise M5 has the edge over CTS-V looks wise. However, the instrument panel on CTS-V looks better than M5s dated looking instrument cluster. Come on BMW its 2015 almost so bring a more futuristic instrument panel with greater custom ability. The engine wise and power wise on paper the edge is CTS-V. The transmission wise edge is M5 ill take DCT over 8 speed auto. The suspension wise both guys do pretty good job so a once again its a toss up.
Honestly for me its a draw at this point. But factor in price new vs new similarly equipped ill take CTS-V. Plus cant justify getting an out going long in tooth M5 model vs all new CTS-V. Give me I ne in a nice blue color. |

Never thought the M5 had great styling, so its a wash for the exterior because I don't like the rear spoiler on the CTS-V.
M5 interior is better, but not by much. BMW needs to restyle the silver trim on the DCT, I think it looks cheap. Love what Cadillac is doing. More competition and pressure means we all win. |

I welcome the healthy competition to the segment. This can only help push M to be better.

Looks and styling aside, I have a bad feeling that the Caddy will eat the M5's lunch. It is much harder setting the bar than it is to beat it. Here is what I am thinking....
Car is lighter which should make a big difference. The M5 just feels like a big heavy boat which goes fast in a straight line. With GM's Electromagnetic shocks, I have a feeling it will provide a superior handling. There are more and more supercars licensing this technology from GM. Horsepower. With GM's massive engine department, they can easily grab any major HP block and put it in this car. GM has always made huge horsepower and I don't believe that BMW will be able to keep up. BMW just does not have the fleet or the size to build one off any more. Hopefully the next generation 5 series does not get even bigger and use the weight savings they are planing to justify the larger size with similar or slightly lower weight.

I understand the fan boys here with the ctsv style comments, but I'm sure most of you haven't owned a caddy or ctsv coupe like I have.....the m5 interior is sick, but I will tell you that the nicest interior I ever had in any car was my ctsv coup with the Recaro package. I'm a 6 time bmw owner and love our cars too so I'm trying to be an unbiased as possible.
Performance wise.....09 ctsv sedan crushed v-10 m5 in all comparisons from that time. 2012 ctsv coupe also beat the new tt v8 M5 so what are you guys talking about? this new Ctsv looks decent and will continue crushing the m5 it looks like. price wise, I'll take the caddy and dump the rest of the m5 money in mods! can't go wrong. What I'm waiting for is the ats-v to drop and see how this thing does against the fugly m3/m4! Caddy pretty much dethroned the 3 series as the standard luxury car with the ATS, should be interesting to see what's next. |
