Sorry that this happened but glad that you're okay. Our cars are definitely fixable. I hope those Geico ppl are better now. About a decade ago, when I had to deal with them after a bad accident, I had bad experience.

Your thread brought it all rushing back for me.... I'm still a bit skiddish in the M5 when stopped at a red light and traffic approach from the rear.
http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=845247 Sorry man. It was 850 for new bumper and paint match when I had it done. Of course, all paid for by the other insurance. |

When I got rear ended years back I let MY insurance fix my car and then THEY went after the other guys insurance for reimbursement. That is what you pay insurance for I never dealt with the other person or his insurance at all.

Boots, I'd recommend a DV expert appraiser for their help. Your insurance company will have no interest in helping you with DV. You'll have to threaten most of these insurance companies with taking them to court before they will pay. Most have specific people that deal with DV even though they will claim DV doesn't exist. Good luck!

Hey, Sorry to hear about your accident. I was rear ended in my brand new m3 back in 2013. The delivery truck that hit me was a Canadian truck , so they have their national insurance, which I didn't want to deal with. I instead went through Geico(my insurer) and had the local BMW/Mercedes specialist(recommended by my SA) fix it.
Initially Geico wanted me to allow their preferred shop to fix it. I let them do an estimate and they said it would cost about $7k. Well, The BMW shop took it apart and fixed it for $22k. My car was only a week old, so practically new. I went with a great lawyer here in Seattle that understands diminished value claims and while it took almost a year, we did get most of what we asked for, which was about $20k. Very important to be picky with your lawyer as that can make a huge difference. Hope this helps. |

I've done a diminished value claim through USAA, it was pretty simple. Filled out a form that I got from their website and mailed it in. Got a response 1 month later. It worked out that the other guy was with USAA also. Be prepared for the possibility of the insurance company low balling you. Look online for Geico diminished value claim reviews so you're prepared a bit more. Some companies are a pain in the ass about it.

Just make sure his ins company pays for replacing your bumper etc. with new parts, not refurbished. Lots of companies try to get past this...had it happen to me a few years ago when a truck backed into my M3. The guys insurance said they would only replace my bumper with refurbished. It was a total nightmare, they never did pay for new parts, I had to pay the difference.

http://www.houstonautoadjusters.com/...e_reports.html Get a diminished value report. And then give it to your insurance claims adjuster and tell him you want that amount. To give you an idea, I was also rear-ended, but damage was small. They only replaced the foam shock absorber and the rear bumper cover. Repair bill was $4,500. They eventually gave me $5k in diminished value. The reason the amount was small is because although it hit the carfax, the damage was non-structural and no VIN panels were replaced. If VIN panels get replaced then expect more.

The insurance companies--both yours and theirs--will try to low ball you.
In fact, I would be very surprised if they give you any diminished value. As we all know, insurance companies aren't in the business of paying claims--only collecting premiums. They pay their adjusters/attorneys to deny coverage and reduce claims payouts. If you make a claim against your own insurance company, they will most likely increase your premium enough or more to cover what they paid you. So make sure the other company is the one who pays out.

I am getting oem BMW parts guys. No worries on the parts, rental, or the place that's doing the work. Everything is in place and no issues w the claims adjuster. Everything has been discussed and verified so I'm happy about this. Car goes in Monday to begin work. Thanks everyone.
