After nearly 3 hours of hassle, I finally got the last screw removed and have those charcoal filters out and BMCs in. However, I couldn't tighten that piece of screw back in 100%. It went about 80-90% in and I couldn't do it better. Will get the dealer to tight that up for me next time I visit them. Worst thing is, 2 mins after I finished up, a local performance shop returned my call and said they could do it for $35. I feel like to drown myself in the bath now. At least it's done and hopefully it's worth the time spent.

Thanks for the reminder, I will get it done properly at the dealer as I will need to drop in for some minor warranty repair.

I've read through this thread and I'm still a little confused. There appear to be different things to be found in the airboxes, which appear to affect the end result of removing the carbon filters. Can anyone give me the complete run-down of the choices of what I'm likely to find in there, and what end result they seem to have?

Whatever the airbox looks like is irrelevant regarding charcoal filter removal. The charcoal filter is restrictive. Period. Take the filters out...you'll see better throttle response, potentially a bit more bump in HP, and, some more turbo sound. My $.02!

I removed the charcoal filters a week ago and can definitely feel an improvement in throttle response, and probably a good HP bump, although tough to tell because this engine is already a beast (PKilla)

Don't know...don't have it in my car. Not sure about any performance benefit from doing so.

What month is your car built in? I just removed the filters half an hour ago and had snorkles in both. Would love to know the benefit.

Thanks for posting this. I just finished deleting mine - net time 20 mins including test drive.
This plus a set of 1/4" extensions made it easy: http://www.amazon.com/Stanley-85-727.../dp/B000NIK95A Butt dyno says +20hp and tq. Also - snorkels.

Done... Took about 45 min. The driver side 7screw took some time. I did use an extension but it was about 2" short...... What a PITA. Happy to be done.

Sorry to bring back an old post, but could someone put a picture of the Charcoal Filter Vs. the normal airfilter? All i could see in the pictures were the charcoal filters and I couldn't see the normal filter

look at the post one above yours; JS shows both in his pic... normal filters are orange and go "down" toward the bottom of the car. Charcoal filters are grey black and go "up" into the top half of the air box housing.

u kno u only have to remove one screw on the side of the filter box, the wire clamp for the connection of the air tube on top of the box, u can lift up the entire filter box and deal with the 7 screws. i just had my KN filter put in and it only took my mechanic 10mins for both sides.
