I hate lag. Hope that they will work harder to avoid it on the next M3.

When there is Turbo there is lag. I test drove 135i (manual and dkg), X1 23d, 530d, 1M, EVO VI,.... It seems that it's not possible to avoid lag with Turbo

OK, some almost very indiscernible turbo lag

I bet the turbo lag on the kick down is intentional. When I do a kick down from 5th to 2nd on my 335i, the force is quite brutal. I can just imagine how it must be on the M5 with all that power and they did it to be easier on the tranny and diff...and maybe the driver and passengers as well lol....just a guess

yeah. i dont see how valvetronic causes more lag. but on the X6M, they use a regular torque converter automatic, which can handle the kickdown. the DCT is probably self preserving and wont engage the clutches too quickly...

That's not turbo lag, IMHO. My M3 does something very similar. I believe the transmission slips the clutch a bit so as not to shock the driveline too much.

The biggest disappointment with the M5 is turbo lag.

Case in point, drive at highway speeds, and the transmission is in seventh gear. Floor the throttle and you get a fairly quick downshift into third: revs in the top half of the tach, all is well. The problem is that there's no boost, so you get a clutch engagement, followed by no power for a second, followed by massive thrust. Boost should have been built by the time the downshift was done.

+1. I have the same effect with my DCT transmission, as well. There's always a slight hesitancy when you use the kick-down function or shift down more than 2-3 gears, which is either a transmission function or a software issue.

Finally the chassis gets the engine it deserves... It will be much cheaper to mod it as well.

I doubt it, they are already prepping a more powerful X6M, so chances are there will be a more powerful M5---if you have taken a look at the M5's engine, I wouldn't want a tuner near the car. Besides, as heavy as it is, and the DCT, whose to say that 700+ hp might eff this delicate engine and tranny up?

I'm already waiting for the issues with UG's TT 458...matter of time...

there's a big difference between a turbo lag and a delay in the transmission to engage from 7th to 3rd
