How do you turn off the limiter? Pretty impressive speeds for a sedan. As one of the posters mentioned, who in their right mind will go that fast? What's the fastest you've gone on a regular road or track?

true, the fact that it can go that fast is impressive but yes hardly anyone will ever get a chance to go that fast.

You need to have the DME software hack'd or cracked to defeat the speed limiter. ALL new BMW's come with either a 210 kph speed limter or a 250 kph speed limiter. ALL m-sport optioned BMW's get the 250 kph. ALL M cars also get the 250 kph limiter. IF you car has: #840 Increased top speed limiter, your car will go 250 kph. For M models... you can go to a M Driving school (for about 3K euros) and then once you pass you can then go to any German BMW dealer and they can "code" your M model to reach a real 280 kph instead of 250 kph. This is the first I have heard of a BMW offering speed limiter higher than 280 kph. ??? Of course most of the German tuners can offer you only the higher speed limiter. But that will probably set you back at least 1,500 euros. Most flash tunes over here cost 1,500 to 2,000 euros for M cars. Any tune over here would have the higher speed limiter. Dackel |

Lots of power, but sounds like it wants to die at 7k rpm .. so i don't buy the 7200k rpm.
Even the the speedo is painted red at 7k.. i think anything beyond that is just comestic. For all purposes, this engine starts to flail at 6k rpm ... |

Awesome acceleration, but I'm not impressed with the way it sounds (as far as I can tell from a video).
The M5 definitely needs a perf. exhaust.

The E60 M5 had different gear setup. You could reach top speed in 7th gear, which means the gears up to 7th were shorter.
The new M5 has "longer" gears, so you reach top speed in 5th gear. 6th and 7th gear is for fuel economy. The shorter the gears the smaller the rev jumps from gear to gear. Shorter gears makes you accalerate faster. The M3 is limited to 250km/h and with drivers package 280km/h The M5 can be raised to 305km/h with drivers package |

Weight is irrelevant on a top speed run. The main factors are power, gearing, aerodinamics and wind conditions. The most likely reason that the F10 is not faster than the E60 is the gearing is not optimal to the powerband for top speed runs. I am sure yop speed was not the highest priority during development of the car.

I kind of wondered the same thing? I mean, don't get me wrong--that is fast...but I thought the E60 could do around 205...

Guys, think about it there is nothing really to complain about. The main glory of the car is that it's much quicker on the stop and go. I'm sure 0-60 is around 3.5s-3.7s which is already faster then the E60.
Sooooo....for DD that's damn good!! And even for track purposes, your power is there when needed. Also take into consideration that it's heavier, but still quicker in the short runs. |

What do I mean speakers? Is it true that the sound you hear is not from the exhaust alone? If so, that's lame.
